Lisa Graas Supports Bill Johnson for US Senate, Kentucky

I'm announcing my full support for Bill Johnson for US Senate in Kentucky.

I am very saddened to be losing Senator Jim Bunning as my US Senator. It was very painful to me when he lost the support of Senator McConnell whom I have only half-heartedly supported over the years. Senator Bunning is a true conservative at heart and he will be sorely missed.

Senator McConnell has made no endorsement in the race but it's fairly common knowledge that his candidate is Trey Grayson. Mr. Grayson is an establishment Republican whom I believe will do the bidding of Senator McConnell. This means he is not an option for me.

Rand Paul, son of Ron Paul, is also in the race. He has a lot of support, particularly among those who support his father for president, and claims to be pro-life, but he reduces life issues to politics and legalities in his discourse. Speaking as someone who has dedicated seventeen years of her life advancing the Culture of Life, I see right through this.

Bill Johnson is a true defender of life, from the heart. Period. Therefore, he has my full support.

Mother Teresa said, "Abortion has become the greatest evil, the greatest destroyer of peace, because I always say, if a mother can kill her own child, what is left for others to kill each other?"

I encourage my fellow Kentuckians who understand that abortion is the greatest evil, the greatest destroyer of peace, to support Bill Johnson for US Senate. He is a conservative all the way around, a graduate of the University of Kentucky and William & Mary, as well as a decorated Navy veteran with ten years of honorable service.

I continue to meet great people at festivals, picnics, Republican meetings, and other events around the state of Kentucky. An exceptional person I met at the Kentucky Doctors for Life Memorial Lecture is Patrick Henry Hughes. Patrick was born without eyes and with disabilities preventing him from being able to walk. Additionally, two steel rods were surgically attached to Patrick's spine to correct scoliosis. Despite his physical limitations, he has overcome these obstacles to excel as a musician and student and has authored a book titled I Am Potential: Eight Lessons on Living, Loving, and Reaching Your Dreams.

In his book Patrick tells the story of a baby that many thought was so handicapped that he should have been aborted. However, God had other plans for Patrick and he has turned his handicaps into blessings. Patrick travels the country with his father

I am often advised to avoid the topic of abortion and right to life while campaigning. However, our Declaration of Independence is very clear on the issue. "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed." The most fundamental purpose of our government is to protect life, from God's creation until natural death. A political leader who avoids the issue or believes in letting the states decide is neither a defender of the Constitution nor a conservative. I will continue to be a voice for life regardless of the consequences.

We have an upcoming fundraiser and rally in Hopkinsville with Dr. Alan Keyes on October 22, 6:00pm at the Fairgrounds Convention Center (2810 Richard Street).
