(I will be a guest TODAY at 5p.m. PST on #1 Alaska Talk Radio Host Eddie Burke's show to discuss the Fort Hood tragedy. Listen online www.kbyr.com.)
Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan is a domestic terrorist. Yes, you heard me right; Hasan is a domestic terrorist. The more I learn about this entire horrific situation, the more angry I become that we allowed a man who has such disdain and hate for America to serve in the military alongside freedom-loving patriots, freedom-loving warriors. It brings tears to my eyes as I watch the coverage about those brave men and women who lost their lives a week before Veteran's Day. How symbolic. A traitor who has no respect for America and life itself killed them. These brave men and women came from all over our great country. They were daughters, sons, brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers and even mothers to be. These men and women were killed in a place that should have been a refuge, not a battlefield. What does this incident say to all the military men and women who return daily from Iraq and Afghanistan? Our military men and women come home dealing with enough stress after what they go through on the battlefield. They need the reassurance that they will be safe and taken care of when they return home. Something NEEDS to be done! This incident cannot happen again.
The more I learn about this coward, Hasan, the more terrified I become that this Muslim extremist was allowed into the military. Why would he be allowed to enter Fort Hood when he had prior incidents that were cause for concern? This man was a psychiatrist for heaven's sake. He was there to help people when he clearly needed help himself. This man is a radical Muslim who hates America and everything she represents. What were his true attentions for joining the military in the first place? How long had he been planning this attack? Did he work alone or were other individuals involved? Newsmax is reporting, via the London Sunday Telegraph, that Hasan has connections to two of the 9/11 hijackers:
"Hasan attended services at the Dar al-Hijrah mosque in Great Falls, Va., in 2001 at the same time as Sept. 11 hijackers Nawaf al-Hamzi and Hani Hanjour. Funeral services for Hasan's mother also [were] held at that mosque."
This just seems a little too coincidental if you ask me. I agree with Alaska Conservative Talk Radio Host Eddie Burke who told me that to him, Hasan is no different in his eyes than the terrorists who killed thousands on September 11, 2001. After all, this is the biggest attack to take place on American soil at the hands of a domestic terrorist since 9/11. When Hasan stood on that table and shouted "Allahu akbar" (God is great), this radical Muslim terrorist knew exactly what he was doing and whom he was doing it for. The hijackers on 9/11 shouted out the very same phrase, just as Muslim extremist suicide bombers do. According to Newsmax:
"The imam at the mosque at the time Hasan attended services there was Anwar al-Awlaki, a radical cleric who has been described as a supporter of al-Qaida. A third 9/11 hijacker attended al-Awlaki's lectures in California."
This is a huge connection. Hasan was hearing this radical man on a regular basis. I find this deeply disturbing as an American. I don't think any member of our military should be attending a mosque led by a supporter of Al Qaida. I am flabbergasted that our government could let this slip by. Did they know this, and if they did, why wasn't anything done about it?
It's not as if there were no red flags. Prior to the attack, Hasan's colleagues voiced their concerns. They said he openly spoke out against the wars, talked about suicide bombers and the possibilities of troop cover-ups, and became more and more unstable and agitated as his deployment to Afghanistan drew near. While the Army, media, members of Congress and President Obama say we have to be careful about jumping to conclusions, I find this very hard to do with all the information we have up to this point. Our president is too scared to ruffle any feathers in the Muslim community, yet he has the audacity to blast Police Officer Sgt. James Crowley, saying he acted stupidly when arresting Professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. when Obama didn't even having any facts to go by. We have the facts here, but once again our president cares more about protecting the suspect than the victims. Where is our president when we need him? Where is the justice for these slain individuals? Instead of meeting with the House on Saturday regarding the health care vote, he should have been meeting and comforting the Fort Hood troops and their families, but in an all-too-common occurrence, President Obama chose making history over honoring our troops. He has set aside part of Tuesday to visit Fort Hood, but it's a little too late if you ask me. As our commander in chief, it is his duty to get to the bottom of this. He said he plans too, but let's just hope it doesn't take months to do so, for other military facilities could be at risk of getting attacked.
Hasan is not the only radical Muslim extremist out there; there are others who are biding time as they plan the best time to strike. Our government needs to get off this politically correct ride it's on and start looking out for America. I surely hope the Obama Administration hasn't forgotten about 9/11. I found it astonishing the way in which the administration chose to remember 9/11 this year, making it a day of service rather than a day of remembrance for those who died at the hands of Muslim extremists. This is America. What ever happened to honoring and remembering those whom we have lost? President Obama cares more about appeasing other countries than protecting his own. I'm sorry President Obama, but you are wrong to think that just because you became president that every country that disliked us before will suddenly become our best friend. Contrary to what you might think, you don't hold that much power.
We are still at war, and Al Qaida is still out there and is going to continue on its path to destroy America. Just because President Obama is president and promised America would have a better standing in the world, does not mean a thing. The softening of interrogation techniques, such as ceasing water boarding, and closing Guantanamo Bay, does not mean Al Qaida will hate us any less. On the contrary, this terrorist network has already come out calling our president weak and naive, which means this group's cause to destroy America becomes even greater.
This tragedy has brought to light the following: In closing Guantanamo Bay, these terrorists will be placed in American prisons leaving open the very real possibility of more terrorist group recruitments, putting our country at even more risk. Softening interrogations and ending water boarding further hampers the United State's ability to react quickly to future threats. Finally, ignoring General McCrystal's request to send the maximum number of troops to Afghanistan further heightens the risks and puts the troops there in extreme danger. The whole point of fighting the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq is to fight the terrorists over there instead of here on American soil, but as we saw this past week, radical Muslim extremists are here, which means that it is important, now more than ever, that we stand our ground and protect this great country AND those who serve daily to keep us safe and free.
