Michael Grimm Delivers a Knockout at Debate

NY-13 Congressional candidate Michael Grimm easily won a debate hosted at Staten Island's Wagner College last night. "The 350 person capacity theatre was filled to the brim with supporters from both teams although it seemed that Team Grimm was represented at a 2:1 margin. Topics ranged from the Economy, Jobs, Immigration, Transportation and Infrastructure with Grimm answering all questions head on. On the other hand, career politician Mike McMahon punted a lot of the questions," Grimm said in an email sent a few hours ago summing up the debate.

US for Palin Publisher Ron Devito was at the debate and found that McMahon was condescending and talking down to the audience in addition to dodging and obfuscating questions, and lying about Grimm's tax pledge. McMahon had an army of paid personnel, including union workers campaigning in front of the school - some of these bright workers held his signs upside down. Picture taking and live video were not permitted in the debate hall.

New York’s 13th Congressional District covers Staten Island and part of Brooklyn. Governor Palin endorsed Grimm on July 28, 2010, along with John Gomez for NY-2 who ran unopposed and won. She was the first to be acknowledged and recognized during his victory speech. Devito is campaigning for Grimm. For the primary, Devito walked door-to-door in the 60th and 79th Election Districts, installed lawn signs in the 10314 zip code, called voters on primary day and closed the PS 36 poll. When Devito arrived to the victory celebration, Allegretti had already called Grimm to concede. Watch Grimm's victory speech here. Devito is continuing his work for Grimm, having completed door-to-door walking blitzes in the 34th, 42nd, 57th, 85th, and 22nd Election Districts.

Michael Grimm Delivers a Knockout at Debate

Dear Grimm Patriots and Friends:

The winner, by way of knockout is Michael Grimm! It was a stunning display last night at the Wagner College Theater where Michael Grimm went up against incumbent liberal Democrat “Tax Hike Mike” McMahon. Grimm shined from the opening statement and never looked back.

The 350 person capacity theatre was filled to the brim with supporters from both teams although it seemed that Team Grimm was represented at a 2:1 margin. Topics ranged from the Economy, Jobs, Immigration, Transportation and Infrastructure with Grimm answering all questions head on. On the other hand, career politician Mike McMahon punted a lot of the questions, always looking to an “emergency” as an excuse for raising taxes and increasing spending to astronomical levels.

Michael Grimm took Mike McMahon to task over his record and ladies and gentlemen did the fireworks explode. Grimm slammed McMahon for voting for measures such as the 18.5% property tax hike, congestion pricing, Cap and Trade which the Wall Street Journal has called the largest tax increase in American history and finally the nearly Trillion dollar boondoggle affectionately known as the “Stimulus.” McMahon tried to make excuses and blame the Bush administration for all of the country’s woes but that did not fly with the well-educated and engaged audience that would not let McMahon off the hook easily.

McMahon was running scared and then the question about immigration came to the floor. Grimm’s answer was solid as a rock, “I am for building a fence on the Mexican border. I like analogies, the way a plumber fixes a leaky pipe is to turn off the water flow first and then address the leak, a fence would do just that, allow for the border patrol to first stop the influx of illegals and then work on keeping them out.” Grimm went on to say, “Then we need to go after the employers who hire illegals. Cheap labor might be good for the bottom line but its not good for the country and when the employers begin to get hit with real fines they will stop.”

McMahon tried to keep up with Michael Grimm’s solid answer but failed and when he said he was for “deporting the criminal illegals” Grimm fired back pointing out that, “Coming across the border without papers is a crime, hence the title ‘illegal’ immigrant,” Grimm continued “I know I have been in law enforcement for 13 years so I might have an advantage but they are known as illegal because they broke the law when they entered the country.”

Needless to say, Grimm was the outright victor last night, which gives our campaign all of the necessary momentum to deliver a victory for you on November 2nd. All of your support, whether it be donations to the campaign, making phone calls, going door to door, or simply telling your friends about Michael Grimm has helped make this campaign one to be reckoned with. In these final days we ask you to keep the momentum going and do everything you can to help get Michael Grimm across the finish line.

Our volunteers are the heart and soul of this campaign and we thank you sincerely for your time, dedication, and enthusiasm about Michael Grimm.

Thank you again for all of your support!
