Senator Lisa Murkowkski has conceded. What an incredible victory for Joe Miller, who was snatched out of anonymity by Governor Palin's endorsement. Governor Palin defeated Lisa's father to become the first woman governor of Alaska, and now she helped Joe Miller to defeat his daughter. As Karl Rove said, "It's an end of an era."
But it's the beginning of another one. As I've been predicting all along, it's Miller Time! We've received the "miracle on ice" Governor Palin has been praying for. Now, on to November!
On Good Morning America, as reported earlier by Lori Calabrese, Meghan McCain said that Gov. Palin was "not a team player." Meghan McCain’s credibility is questionable at best since her own father’s campaign fired her. While she parsed words, obfuscated, and gave a line of bull about “being asked to leave and not come back,” this is the same as being fired. She could have just said “it depends on the what the meaning of ‘is’ is” and been done with it.
This young woman, who was fired from the one campaign she had experience with is stating that a woman who at the time had 16 years of executive experience is not a “team player”? To steal from Hillary Clinton, accepting Meghan McCain’s word on matters pertaining to Gov. Palin would require “the willing suspension of disbelief.”
This would be a good time to remind Meghan McCain that Gov. Palin saved her father from what would have been a devastating double-digit loss. By Meghan McCain’s own acknowledgment, Gov. Palin drew many people to her rallies. Similarly, Gov. Palin’s endorsement of him helped him win the Arizona primary of August 24, just like the other six endorsees for that day. Her track record for the day is 100% and overall over 60%.
While Meghan McCain may or may not vote for Gov. Palin in 2012 should she run, we’ll focus on those whose opinions matter: the millions of people worldwide who are waiting for Gov. Palin to toss her hat in the ring and hopefully become President Palin.
Later today, President Obama will speak to the American people about Iraq. No doubt he will laud the “end of major combat operations” by the date he randomly selected some 18 months ago. His press secretary Robert Gibbs also gave us a glimpse of what else he might say, telling the Today Show this morning that ”What is certainly not up for question is that President Obama, then-candidate Obama, said that adding those 20,000 troops into Iraq would, indeed, improve the security situation, and it did.”
Iraq in 2010 is indeed a very long way from Iraq in 2006, when violence and sectarian conflict threatened complete chaos. But then-candidate Obama did not support the course that brought us here as his press secretary now claims. On January 10, 2007, when President Bush announced the surge, Senator Obama insisted that the surge would actually increase sectarian violence: “I am not persuaded that 20,000 additional troops in Iraq are going to solve the sectarian violence there. In fact, I think it will do the reverse.” Barack Obama was clearly in opposition to the surge strategy.
Had we followed the course advocated by then-candidates Obama and Biden, the Iraq war would be remembered now as a crushing defeat for the United States and our allies. Al Qaeda in Iraq and Iranian supported extremists would have claimed victory over America – with grave implications for us throughout the region and the world. Iraq would have descended into full-scale civil war. Iraq’s neighbor would have likely been drawn into the conflict. Parts of Iraq would have been made a safe haven for terrorists to train and plan for attacks far beyond Iraqi borders.
Fortunately for all of us, these events did not occur. They did not occur because America changed strategy in Iraq. President Bush decided to increase our forces in Iraq and pursue a counterinsurgency strategy – a course long advocated by Republicans in Washington. This “surge” policy in 2007 was opposed by many – most notably and adamantly by Senators Obama and Biden. In October 2006, as the violence was spiraling out of control, Senator Obama actually advocated reducing our troop presence: “It is clear at this point that we cannot, through putting in more troops or maintaining the presence that we have, expect that somehow the situation is going to improve, and we have to do something significant to break the pattern that we’ve been in right now.”
In response to President Bush’s State of the Union address on January 23, 2007, Senator Obama said: “I don’t think the president’s strategy is going to work…My suggestion to the president has been that the only way we’re going to change the dynamic in Iraq and start seeing political commendation is actually if we create a system of phased redeployment. And, frankly, the president, I think, has not been willing to consider that option, not because it’s not militarily sound but because he continues to cling to the belief that somehow military solutions are going to lead to victory in Iraq.”
Senator Joe Biden, just before the surge was formally announced, actually declared: “If he surges another 20, 30 [thousand], or whatever number he’s going to, into Baghdad, it’ll be a tragic mistake.”
In May 2007, Senator Obama voted against funding our troops in Iraq. Reporters have insinuated that I haven’t been telling the truth on this fact, but consider the fact: he did not support additional troop funding. Had his position prevailed, our troops would have been forced to leave Iraq precipitously and chaos would have ensued. Goodness, even Senator Biden voted for the funding and had to admit this about Senator Obama and others who opposed it: “My colleagues voted against the funding to make a political point. There’s no political point worth my son’s life. There’s no political point worth anyone’s life.” As the mother of a soldier who spent his year in Iraq recently, I have to agree with Biden on that point.
As it became clear in the summer of 2007 that the surge strategy was working, Senator Obama was still stubbornly in denial about the success our American troops were having, saying: “My assessment is that the surge has not worked and we will not see a different report eight weeks from now.” What amazing blindness he showed with that assessment.
And even in November 2007, when everyone could see the success of the surge in reducing violence and increasing political space in Iraq, Senator Obama said: “Finally, in 2006-2007, we started to see that, even after an election, George Bush continued to want to pursue a course that didn’t withdraw troops from Iraq but actually doubled them and initiated a surge and at that stage I said very clearly, not only have we not seen improvements, but we’re actually worsening, potentially, a situation there.”
As Americans tune in to watch President Obama, it is important to remember the facts. He opposed the surge. He predicted it would fail. He said it would make things worse even after it dramatically improved the situation. He voted to cut off funds for our brave soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines fighting in Iraq. For months he refused to accept that the surge he fought was actually a spectacular success. As President Obama usually likes to look backwards and declare the state of everything to be “George Bush’s fault,” my hope is that tonight he stays consistent and looks backwards, and in this case acknowledges that credit should be given where credit is due.
Along with the points that Bill Kristol made yesterday, I too have some suggestions for the president. President Obama, please show grace, humility and some honesty before the American people tonight. Please don’t declare “Mission Accomplished” and then saunter away from the podium with an assumption that your opposition to the Iraq strategy was key to our troops’ success. Please end the political posturing. Admit you were wrong about the surge. Recognize what our brave armed forces have achieved. Admit that the strategy long advocated by Republicans, proposed by President Bush, led by Generals Petraeus and Odierno, and executed by thousands of America’s finest – our brave men and women in uniform – brought violence under control and made responsible withdrawals possible. The more honest you are about the past, the more likely it is you will gain the support of the American people for your Iraq policy in the future. We need to be able to trust the White House war strategy, as our children’s future depends on it. Being honest with us tonight is a good starting point in building trust.
This year's Republican primary in Alaska has come down to a fight between the establishment and the conservative grassroots. Unfortunately, Joe Miller and his homegrown base of conservative Alaskans are facing legal battles with well-funded special interests committed to maintaining the status quo in Washington.
With your support, Joe can continue his momentum; stave off the inevitable lawsuits, and cross the finish line with another victory for the conservative movement. Please donate 50, 75, or 100 dollars to preserve the integrity of Alaska's electoral system and ensure that the true conservative is on the ballot in November.
Help Joe return the power, land, and resources of the states to the people that live in them! Please forward this message to anyone who would like to help. See our live progress at www.SupportJoeMiller.com.
Governor Palin is headed to Iowa. The Republican Party of Iowa put out the following press release:
Gov. Sarah Palin to Headline Iowa GOP’s Ronald Reagan Dinner “Salute to Freedom” Event, Friday, September 17
DES MOINES – Republican Party of Iowa Chairman Matt Strawn today announced Governor Sarah Palin will be the Party’s special guest at the upcoming Reagan Dinner: A Salute to Freedom.
“The Iowa GOP is pleased that Gov. Palin is traveling to Iowa to join the battle to return principled, conservative leadership to Iowa,” said Chairman Strawn. “Our economic and personal freedoms are under attack in Washington, DC and Des Moines. I know Iowa Republicans will be energized and motivated by Gov. Palin to stand up and fight for these principles all the way to Election Day and beyond.”
The Reagan Dinner: A Salute to Freedom will take place the evening of Friday, September 17 in Des Moines. The exact time and location will be announced closer to the event. Tickets for the Reagan Dinner are $100 each, or $1,000 for a table of eight.
Strawn noted that while the former Governor of Alaska and Vice Presidential nominee is popular among Iowans, the current economy is challenging for many Iowa families who may wish to attend. That is why the Iowa GOP is offering Iowans an opportunity to volunteer through any of its ten statewide Victory Centers in exchange for a ticket to the Ronald Reagan “Salute to Freedom” Dinner. For additional details regarding volunteer opportunities, Iowans should contact their local Iowa GOP Victory Center in: Ames, Cedar Falls, Council Bluffs, Davenport, Iowa City, Marion, Mason City, Ottumwa, Sioux City and Urbandale.
Tickets can be reserved by emailing RSVP@IowaGOP.org or by calling 515-282-8105.
Media requesting credentials should email Danielle Plogmann at dplogmann@iowagop.org.
Some wonderful people are sharing some great pictures with me from the Restoring Honor Rally.
I received the first picture below with the message that follows:
Picture reportedly taken by Beck's photographer
A commenter on SPN posted that Glenn Beck states that Governor Palin had been praying for 10 minutes when this photo was taken.
This second picture came just a few minutes later with the message that follows:
I thought you may enjoy this. I did a bit of converging two pictures to make this.
Thank God for leaders who will humble themselves and pray. As 2 Chronicles 7:14 says:
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
The above picture of Governor Palin was sent to me with the following words:
Sarah Palin wiping a tear during the dramatic bagpipe rendition of Amazing Grace accompanied by Gospel choir: "8/28 Restoring Honor Rally" at The Lincoln Memorial
Glenn Beck's Restoring Honor Rally brought hundreds of thousands of patriots to the Lincoln Memorial on Saturday. It was not a political event; it was an American event. Many say it was more like a "revival" with a clear message that America needs to return to faith, to God, to the honor that is the fabric of our very existence. It certainly had a clear spiritual message--one of dependence on God, unity, and hope. And our troops received the respect and recognition they so deserve.
How appropriate the song "Amazing Grace," for we are what we are by the grace of God, and we are in desperate need of His continued grace to get where we must go.
God bless America, and, more importantly, America bless God.
National Review Online caught up with Sarah Palin after the Restoring Honor rally Saturday in Washington and asked for her thoughts on the Senate race and Joe Miller:
Sarah Palin tells National Review Online that she is "very excited" about Joe Miller’s strong showing in Alaska’s GOP Senate primary. Miller, she predicts, will soon have a "final victory" after the absentee votes are counted. "Joe Miller is the right one for Alaska and he’s the right one to help put our country back on the right track," she says.
Miller, Palin adds, "knows that it is time for Alaska to start contributing more to the U.S. with development, with responsible development of our resources — instead of being a ‘taker state,’ being a contributor. We’re so vastly wealthy with our resources but the federal government has to allow us to tap into those resources so that we can become energy secure as a nation."
With all of the behind the scenes nonsense from the GOP’s NRSC and Murkowski, we certainly hope Sarah is right. Joe Miller is the man Alaska and America needs representing us all.
To keep up with the latest, and support Joe as he now takes on the NRSC, stop by his website: http://joemiller.us/

This is a great interview with Joe Miller. This man gets it. Good old Bob Schieffer sets up a few straw men, the old "some say" ploy to call Joe a radical, but with our economy in free fall, and the Obama regime spending money at an unprecedented rate, something must be done. Joe knocks Bob’s imaginary friends down quite well while talking common sense.
Joe is also right about Alaska and her resources. As any regular reader here knows, Alaska is rich in natural resources. Developing those resources will go a long way toward making our nation totally energy independent for centuries to come.
As you know, the GOP establishment is meddling in this election, trying to somehow secure a win for Murkowski, who has already said if she doesn’t get her way, she’ll bolt to a third party. That’s HER seat damn it!
As such, Joe Miller can use your support. Check out his website for details.
If you are paying attention, the left wing women’s groups have been losing their minds because Sarah Palin, and other strong Conservative women, have seized the mantle of feminism from the radical left.
Sarah has proven that women can do anything, including lead the nation. (without even having to hold elected office) Sarah’s message is about strong values and empowerment. Real empowerment.
On the other hand, the radical left feminists have become tools of the equally radical Marxist-democrat party. They do not represent women whatsoever, except for their twisted views on the right to murder their unborn children.
These so-called women’s rights groups are silent when women in this country are attacked, and completely silent on the treatment of women by Islam, which basically enslaves women, treating them as less than human, complete with "honor killings," genital mutilations, and stoning women to death.
As long as it’s in support of Marxist-progressive ideology, these "women’s right’s groups" look the other way. This is why they were silent about serial sexual predator Bill Clinton, and adulterer John Edwards. Being a Marxist means never having to say you’re sorry.
Thankfully, Sarah Palin and her fellow Mama Grizzlies are winning this fight as well.
She certainly has them on the run. At the National Mall rally on Saturday, Sarah Palin delivered an eloquent and moving tribute to servicemen and a nonpartisan call to restore — not transform — America. The complete text should be read in full. (If you are not moved to tears by the stories of three heroic military men, you have a heart of stone.)
I admit that I had some serious reservations about the Glenn Beck rally. To put it mildly, I’m no fan of Beck’s, and his rhetoric has given liberals plenty of fodder to paint the right as extreme and incendiary. But both he and certainly Palin conducted themselves well — sticking to general themes of faith and service. That the media could not find a single controversial statement is a tribute to the good judgment and restraint that was exercised.
Meanwhile, Palin clearly has the left in a tizzy. They have finally gotten it: she is redefining feminism. In the New York Times, two liberal feminists exhibit more than a little anxiety over the Palin juggernaut. To put it bluntly, they have Palin envy:
In the 24 months since her appearance onstage in Dayton, Ohio, Ms. Palin has enthralled pundits and journalists who devote countless television hours and column inches to her every Twitter message and Facebook update, while provoking outrage and exasperation from the left. …
The left should be outraged and exasperated by all this — but at their own failings as much as Ms. Palin’s ascension. Since the 2008 election, progressive leaders have done little to address the obvious national appetite for female leadership. And despite (or because of) their continuing obsession with Ms. Palin, they have done nothing to stop an anti-choice, pro-abstinence, socialist-bashing Tea Party enthusiast from becoming the 21st century symbol of American women in politics.
You betcha. You see, Palin has proved by example that a woman politician need not spout the pro-big government, pro-abortion, pro-welfare-state line. "Ms. Palin has spent much of 2010 burnishing her political bona fides and extending her influence by way of the Mama Grizzlies, a gang of Sarah- approved, maverick-y female politicians looking to ‘take back’ America with ‘common-sense’ solutions." She sure did, and she proved herself to be the most effective female politician in the country. Sorry, Hillary — while you have been playing errand girl for the Obama foreign-policy train wreck, Palin has ascended to the throne. (Nancy Pelosi’s days are numbered.) The left is waving the white flag of surrender:
It’s easy of course, for liberals to laugh off Ms. Palin’s "you go, girl!" ethos and increasingly aggressive co-optation of feminist symbols. We progressives discount her references to the women’s movement — not to mention her validity as a candidate — by looking down on her as a dim, opportunistic, mean-girl prom queen, all spunk and no policy muscle. …
If Sarah Palin and her acolytes successfully redefine what it means to be a groundbreaking political woman, it will be because progressives let it happen — and in doing so, ensured that when it comes to making history, there will be no one but Mama Grizzlies to do the job.
Wow.
And it’s really worse than the New York Times worriers admit. Palin not only trumped the left on style but she also managed to connect on nearly every issue — ObamaCare, bailouts, Israel, taxes, American exceptionalism, and the stimulus plan — in a way the president and his liberal supporters could not. For all of her supposed lack of "policy muscle," it was she who defined the debate on ObamaCare and she who synced up with the Tea Party’s small-government, personal-responsibility, anti-tax-hike message. Who’s short on policy muscle — the White House or Palin? Does "engagement" of despots, Israel-bashing, and capitulation to Russia make for a meaty foreign-policy agenda? Go read a Palin foreign-policy address or two. Plenty of meat and common sense there.
But I give the Times gals credit — they know they are losing the battle to discredit Palin. Now they need to figure out what to do about it. They might start with examining whether their agenda has as much sell as hers.
When you have the right message, a message that actually resonates with the majority of Americans, male and female, You will win hearts and minds. This is exactly what Sarah Palin is doing.
From The Gay Patriot. This loon is trying to say Dr Martin Luther King was all about "social justice." (He wasn’t) Comically, this cat explains all of this, and truthfully says that yes "social justice" is all about wealth re-distribution. (Communism) For some reason the radicals are finally coming out of the closet, so to speak, and admitting what they are all about.
Ben Howe confronts a Progressive protesting the "Restoring Honor" rally yesterday. Funny how the event was at the Lincoln Memorial…. but the misguided protestor was lamely hanging out by himself at the Washington Monument. Heh.
This is three minutes of pure fun as Ben rips this guy apart and demonstrates the sheer lack of principles of the Progressive movement. At the end, the poor fool stammers and shouts "Well, you’re a RACIST and an IDIOT." Yup, when their intellectual argument breaks down after three minutes — Progressives pull the race card out as their last gasp of hope.
This is why I don’t associate with the Gay Left — straight, gay or whatever — this protestor exemplifies the Progressive movement; and the Gay Rights crowd are a keystone of the American Progressive movement.
It IS all about redistribution of wealth. But that isn’t "social justice" folks; it’s Marxist-Communism.
Check out Ben Howe Monday night at 8:30pm (eastern) on Gay Patriot’s America on Blog Talk Radiohere

From their website:
Two versions of the American dream now stand in sharp contrast. One views the money you earned as yours and best allocated by you. It champions the traditional American dream, which has played out millions of times through generations of Americans, of improving one’s lot in life and the entrepreneurial spirit of daring to dream and to build big. The other believes that the federal government, using taxpayers’ money, should play a major role in leveling out the nation’s wealth to guarantee outcomes to all, regardless of effort. How America chooses between these two views of the role of government, at this crucial juncture, will have everything to do with the future we and our children and our children’s children will enjoy.
President Barack Obama clearly believes in the larger government view. In his Inaugural Address, he said, "Now there are some who question the scale of our ambitions – who suggest our system cannot tolerate big plans…The question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it works—whether it helps families find jobs at a decent wage, care they can afford, a retirement that is dignified." With a federal deficit of nearly one and a half trillion dollars for 2009 and deficit projections of not less than a half a trillion dollars over the next ten years, the question of whether government is too big or too small is very relevant, even vital to the future of the nation.
Join filmmaker Ray Griggs in this documentary film I Want Your Money as he contrasts the two paths the United States can take using the words and actions of Barack Obama and Ronald Reagan. The film uses interviews from well-known public figures, experts, movie clips, dramatic portrayals, music, graphics and even comedic animation to tell the story in the plainest terms of the choice between the Obama and the Reagan views of the role of the federal government in our society. It also examines how these big government programs have been tried in the past at great moral and financial cost to the nation. California is offered as a case-in-point in understanding what economic challenges might face the nation, if we choose the larger government path. Finally, I Want Your Money is a call to action for those who care about the future of the United States.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.
~ Martin Luther King, Jr.
By Gary P Jackson
Saturday August 28, 2010 will go down in history as the start of a great awakening. America is a great country, the greatest civilization has ever known. The only country where man has been truly free. The problem is, we have lost our way.
Our Founding Fathers based this nation, and it’s Constitution on the fact we all have certain unalienable rights granted to us by our creator. Unlike other nations before, or since, our Constitution was designed to restrain government and protect our God given rights, in order to maintain Liberty and Freedom.
Over the last 100 years, as the Marxist-progressive movement gained more and more control over government, we have seen our rights eroded, and our First Principles ignored. In order for the Marxist-progressives to be successful, they had to work at eroding the morals of the American people. They also had to get God, and any mention of God, out of the public square. To the Statist, Government replaces God. Man replaces God.
Sadly, the left has been most successful at this. As such, we have lost our way.
People who regularly watch Glenn Beck know that he is a man on a mission. Besides his regular weekly show, where he has been doing an amazing job of exposing the corruption that IS the Obama regime, Glenn devotes his Friday show towards educating Americans of their real history.
Glenn has re-introduced America to our leaders. He’s also setting the record straight, correcting the lies Marxist-progressives, who control much of education, thus what is taught as historical fact have been teaching. Glenn has introduced a whole new generation to our real history.
Glenn has had several Black history days, as well as Black leadership forums, including ones our friends Adrienne Ross and Clifton B have participated in. He’s had Hispanic forums as well.
The point is, America needs to not only learn the truth about it’s roots, but get back to them. This Restoring Honor rally is yet another step toward this. Though official numbers aren’t out yet, knowing that the area around the reflecting pool at the Lincoln Memorial holds 250,000 people, and the field beside it holds 350,000, both were full, and people overflowed all around, gives us some idea. So far estimates are from a low of 500,000 to a high of 1 million.
We weren’t able to attend, but did watch the event live courtesy of C-Span. It was the most moving event I have witnessed in quite some time. Beck promised the event would be non-political, and kept his word. He also request that attendees bring no signs, but bring their children. That’s exactly what they did.
Glenn had some amazing guests, including Sarah Palin, who was there not as our leader, but as the mother of a soldier. She told the story of three remarkable heroes and introduced them to the crowd. Dr Alveda King, Dr Martin Luther King’s niece was also there, and gave her own "I have a dream" speech that was amazing.
If you missed the event, we have video, courtesy of The Right Scoop. This truly is must see TV:
For a higher quality version, you can check out C-span here.
Of course, none of this was without controversy. In fact, the left and the media (same thing) lost it’s mind. The same people who are begging for tolerance for the radical Muslims who want to build the 9/11 Victory Mosque at Ground Zero, were outraged that the Restoring Honor rally was allowed to happen.
As this was the anniversary of Dr King’s "I have a dream" speech, a date Beck insists was a coincidence, the radical left was uniquely indignant. How dare all of these Americans talk about Faith, Hope, and Charity, as well as the content of character on the date of a speech that called for all men to be judged by the content of their character, rather than the color of their skin!
Race hustler Al Sharpton threw a counter event, but almost no one showed up. It was nothing more than a hate fest declaring the Restoring Honor rally was "stealing King’s legacy." If that sounds familiar, it’s basically the same argument the radical feminists trot out against Sarah Palin, claiming she’s trying to hijack feminism. The left only has one very small playbook.
Below is a video from Reason TV with host Nick Gillespie. It’s exactly what you expect it to be, but a little more fair than most reporting. I only include it because at one point Gillespie encounters a Black woman and acts stupidly. The best part is when he refers to her as an "African-American." It’s truly worth watching just for her response. She is an AMERICAN and makes that point quite clear!
I made the mistake of flipping over to CNN, as Fox wasn’t carrying the rally live, and I was quite curious at how the far left would cover this thing. (MSNBC was AWOL) I tuned in as Sarah Palin was speaking, but since all she was talking about was honor and heroism, that wasn’t working for the network.
Hilariously, a little later on, as Reverend C.L. Jackson from Houston, Texas was giving an amazing speech, instead of showing it, the CNN anchorette chose instead to go to their on ground "reporter" who spent the whole time talking about how there were nothing but a lot of white folks there!
The "whole lot of white folks" was a theme for all of the coverage, just as it is a staple for any coverage of Tea Party events, including those headlined by Black conservatives. It’s quite shameful. But par for the course.
Jim Treacher over at the Daily Caller complied a sampling of the biased coverage from the usual suspects that you can see here.
Oh, and remember CNN? Not only are the biased hacks over there, their graphics department ain’t too hot either, as the folks at SondraKpoint out.
In closing, Beck’s Restoring Honor rally is yet another sign that America is in the middle of a great awakening. More Americans than ever before are engaged in what is going on around them. They are paying attention. They are taking action.
Folks understand now where the wheels started coming off the wagon. Now they are actively working to set things right again. Glenn is playing a big roll in this. His "Founders Fridays" are a must see if you want to learn some real history, and understand how the left has perverted that history for their own gain.
Our Friends over at The Right Scoop archive Beck’s show daily, so a little hunting though their website and you can catch up on any "Founders Friday" you have missed. It is worth the effort to do so.
In this mailing sent today, GOP candidate Michael Grimm delineates his continued efforts in fighting the proposed mosque to be located two blocks north of the WTC site, the roll-out of a new website and the chance to be featured on that site.

Aside from being a principal PalinVersary, August 29 was also 30 years to the day that I completed a transcontinental train trip to Los Angeles with my uncle William E. Thomas. We would spend 10 days there, then return to my home in Flushing, NY. I got to see our beautiful country during that trip on the Lake Shore Limited from the forests of upstate New York; to the cornfields of Ohio; the steel mills of Indiana. Until the mid 1980s, the Lake Shore Limited departed Grand Central. At Chicago, we boarded the Southwest Chief ("Southwest Limited"); I remember very briefly sleeping in Missouri, then waking up in Kansas and seeing the Rockies even though they were four hours away; traveling through the Rockies, then the buttes of New Mexico and red plains of Arizona. When I woke up the morning of the 29th from a few hours sleep, California's palm trees were out the train window.
I still remember that trip to California like it happened yesterday. And from that time forward, my urge was always to go west, just like our ancestors did so long ago. My return to New York fell out on September 11, 1980 - 21 years before Al Qaeda's atrocrities. 1980 was the year that the disgraceful Carter administration came to its close as Ronald Reagan was elected. Even at the ripe old age of 11, if I could have voted it would have been for Reagan. Twenty eight years later to the day I walked on the streets of Los Angeles as a pre-pubescent child, John McCain gave us Gov. Sarah Palin, whose grandparents lived in North Hollywood, the same town where my uncle and I stayed with his mother. As she revealed in her October 4, 2008 rally speech at Carson City, California, Gov. Palin's father, Chuck Heath was born in Los Angeles. Chuck Heath's father was a sports photographer covering boxing and wrestling matches of the era and his mother a school teacher.
Restoring Honor - and Rebirth
A few people took issue with the Restoring Honor Rally being held on the same anniversary as Martin Luther King's "I have a Dream" speech. As it turned out, the connection was Providential and apropos. During the rally, some 250 miles to the northeast, 16 swamp white oaks were planted at the WTC memorial, a living sign of renewal and rebirth, while One WTC is now at the 36th Fl. level.

After getting my own PalinVersary article to press and Missy Stewart's, I walked to nearby Snug Harbor with my wife to a Polish festival. As the music and announcements blared, being the chow hound that I am, I went straight to work on the Kielbasa, Pierogies, and stuffed cabbage, all washed down with a pint of Zywiec beer. During the festival, I saw Adrienne had posted, so I did my post-publication routine via the iPhone.
While drinking my pint, I heard the name "Rita Cosby" and a book she was promoting. I paid little mind at first, as the announcement was at a low volume. But I heard some key words. "Hero." Some more noise. "McCain." My interest piqued. I walked to the table. Quiet Hero is about Rita Cosby's father who fought the National SocialistWorker's Party of Germany (most commonly known as "Nazis") and was held as a POW. He kept his story bottled up inside him. Rita - a journalist - got him to tell his story. Senator McCain - the man who brought Gov. Palin to the world stage just two years earlier - had endorsed Rita's book. So did Dr. Henry Kissinger, who Gov. Palin met with in her 2008 New York City trip. Rita signed and personalized my copy of Quiet Hero.
Are all these juxtapositions coincidental? Like Gov. Palin, I don't believe in coincidences. Things happen for a reason. Going West. Ronald Reagan. Sarah Palin. Heroes. Dreams. Resurrection and rebirth. And on the celebration of a PalinVersary - more heroes and more - Providential Connections.
The army that will take back the Shining City on a Hill showed up in Washington, DC Saturday to join Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin in a rally designed to restore honor and integrity to America by supporting our military and calling for a personal revival of our relationships with God. America had been slipping away from us, and Glenn Beck came to not only warn us yesterday, but to show us how to get back.
"We're not here to curse the darkness, we're here to turn on light," Glenn Beck told the crowd.
“This is the beginning of the end of darkness. We have been in darkness for a long time,” Beck told followers in a preview of his “Restoring Honor” rally, on the 47th anniversary of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. “I Have a Dream” speech.
"Something beyond imagination is happening," he said. "America today begins to turn back to God."
We have in fact been wandering in a wildnerness, or as Beck said we have "wandered in darkness." In the years since the death of Ronald Reagan, our country has been on a steady decline politcally, economically and spiritually. With the emergence of Sarah Palin, who also spoke at the rally, and Glenn Beck to build our spirit back, Americans have awoken from a slumber and have shed the "silent majority" label to take to the streets and town halls to make their opposition to this decline heard.
We may have felt isolated as we watched the despair and cynicism that always comes with a political decline, but Sarah Palin explained why we feel that no more as she pumped us up and encouraged us to restore our great country.
Look around you. You’re not alone. You are Americans!
You have the same steel spine and the moral courage of Washington and Lincoln and Martin Luther King. It is in you. It will sustain you as it sustained them.
So with pride in the red, white, and blue; with gratitude to our men and women in uniform; let’s stand together! Let’s stand with honor! Let’s restore America!
On Saturday, Governor Palin spoke before hundreds of thousands of Americans at the Restoring Honor rally. In yet another contrast between herself and President Obama, Governor Palin stated at the rally:
I must assume that you too know that we must not fundamentally transform America as some would want. We must restore America and restore her honor!
What is would restoration of America look like? Would it mean that our leaders have character? Would it mean that politicians were public servants rather than self-servants? Would it mean that our government, both Democrats and Republicans, used the Constitution as a blueprint rather than a doormat? Would it mean that everyday Americans looked for government to protect us, rather than provide for us? Would it mean that we, as Americans, respected one another, and saw each other as unique individuals, rather than demographic groups? Would it mean that we honored our military? Would it mean that we honored our elders and respected one another? Would it mean that we realize that our rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are inalienable--given to us only by God-- not given to us by government?
Governor Palin is one who has character and sees the role of elected official as a public servant, not a self-servant. She sees not an America separated by demographic groups, but one that united as a nation, but unique as individuals. She values and respect the Constitution as she states so often, and even stated, in a brief interview on Saturday (emphasis mine):
That’s what Americans are ready for — the kind of change where we get back to protecting our constitution and limiting government...That’s what I think we see reflected here, even though this is a rally about restoring honor.
Such a focus on the Constitution is seen not only in her speeches, interviews, and writings, but also even in her PAC solicitations. Earlier this summer, I received a mailing from SarahPAC with the following text (Emphasis mine.):
Dear Whitney,
I am inspired by the American patriots across our nation who want to bring Congress back to the ideals of our Founding Fathers.
The White House and Congress need to hear that Americans don't want cradle-to-grave government control of our lives. We don't want government bureaucrats deciding what kind of light bulbs we should use, what kind of cars we should drive, and which doctors can and can't care for us and our families.
Liberal politicians should not be trying to re-write the U.S. Constitution. Our Constitution is a centuries-old gift from our steadfast Founding Fathers. We cannot sell out our sovereignty, surrender our God-given rights, or falter in the War on Terror.
Republicans recently took victory away from liberals in three states and sent a message to Congress and the White House that Americans are fed up with politicians trying to impose more big-government policies on our nation.
Now I'm asking for your help to carry that momentum across the country.
What Americans want is a return to the values our Founding Fathers fought and died for. Government should get out of our way so we can raise our families, run our businesses, and keep more of our hard-earned money.
So many people have asked me what can we do to save our country from politicians who want to take away our basic rights. What we can do, Whitney, is join the effort and help send pro-family, pro-American patriots who share our beliefs to Congress.
If you're ready to join the movement, please use the enclosed reply form to send your best gift possible to SarahPAC today. We'll use it to change our nation to the ideals that matter to all of us. Thank you for joining me to keep America the country we know and love!
With an Alaskan heart, Sarah Palin
I was particularly struck by her emphasis on the words "Founding Fathers" and "Constitution". While the current administration is operating with the goal of fundamentally transforming our nation, through her endorsements and her voice, Governor Palin is operating with the goal of fundamentally restoring our nation to the principles it was founded upon, a theme echoed in Saturday's speech.
Our Constitution has three main themes woven throughout its text:a limited federal government, appropriate powers given to states, and emphasis on individual freedoms. These are all themes upon which Governor Palin has built her political philosophy. Governor Palin is a very strong advocate for 2nd amendment and 10th amendment rights in particular. She believes that the branches of government must not be twisted. In her speech at theSouthern Republican Leadership Convention, she has called out the EPA, an agency of unelected bureaucrats housed executive branch, for legislating from the executive branch. She does not believe judicial officials should legislate from the bench. She does not believe the federal government should go beyond its powers to infringe upon states' powers. However, she is not only going to speak out when the federal government overreaches, she is also going to speak out when the federal government is not fulfilling one of its Constitutional roles, as she has done by standing with Governor Brewer with regards to border insecurity in Arizona.
If one examines the premise of the writing of the Constitution--the Preamble--one can see that Governor Palin is lock step with every principle in that famed, beautifully simple paragraph. Governor Palin believes that it is "we the people", not the "we the governing authorities" that make have founded and maintain this country. Governor Palin believes that justice must be established and domestic tranquility ensured by properly prosecuting terrorists, securing our border, and taking our enemies seriously. She believes that the common defense must be provided for. She has spoken out against the President for drawing back nuclear weapons and cutting funds for missile defense.Governor Palin believes in promoting the general welfare, not by creating and perpetuating entitlement programs, but by removing burdensome regulations and taxation from businesses, families, and individuals so that they have the opportunity to better provide for their own welfare. Governor Palin supports securing the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity. She understands that in order to have such liberty, government must not impinge upon individual freedoms, nor should our nation become beholden to foreign countries because of a dependency upon foreign fossil fuels, when America has abundant sources here. She sees that the current trajectory of our nation's spending puts us on a path towards insolvency, and she has even called such spending generational theft. Blessings of liberty will not be passed on to our posterity if our nation is drowning in debt.
When the word "restoration" is used, it hearkens back to the time of our Founders, whose wisdom crafted our Constitution, the document that guides Governor Palin's political worldview, and represents leadership full of integrity and character:
Time will tell if Governor Palin chooses to run for President. However, it is clear that if she is elected and takes her oath of office to uphold and defend the Constitution, she will mean every word of that oath and will not risk perjuring herself with such a declaration. It must be noted that Governor Palin's desire to restore America and help return it to the principles of the Constitution are not bound by political office. Her moving speech this weekend was a call to recognize God, to return to the principles of the Founders and great leaders of the past, and to show gratitude to our military. Such is Governor Palin's call to restore honor:
In the comment sections where her plea was posted, that is...
I'm sure you will be hard pressed to find many union members who will go on record stating this sentiment, given the environment they find themselves in these days. However, the internet is a place many find able to speak their mind without fear of retribution.
Scanning through the comment sections of both Governor Palin's Facebook page, and certain articles on this topic, I saw some comments that I found interesting. They had been left by union members who viewed Governor Palin's statement as factual and words they obviously identified with. I wanted to share some of them but I have omitted their names because they are not public figures (emphasis mine).
As a proud current card-carrying IBEW member for seven years I was just discussing this very topic with my Dad (another IBEW member) earlier this evening. I am very upset and deeply concerned about Obama and what his liberal/socialist cron...ies are doing to our country. What angers me further is that the leaders back at the AFL-CIO continue to back these morons as they run for office. [...] I work hard for my paychecks and I don't wish in any way to discredit the values that unions are SUPPOSED to stand for. I owe the IBEW my current middle-class standing and without the training and bargaining strength of my union I would not be able to support my wife and children as my father did. Keep it up Sarah, there are many union members out there that share my sentiments.
Go Sarah I've Been a union member most of my life construction labor ,uswa and teamsters plus 3yrs. USMC.I'm 72 now and I back you 100%
Took me 24 years of union membership to finally realize where the union bosses real loyalties were. I withdrew last November after the thuggery that supported shoving national healthcare down our throats. I'm with you 100% Sarah! To my union brothers and sisters: Those that say they represent you are not your friends.... they view you as nothing more than a paycheck. Stand with us and help us take our country back!
I am a member of a local trade union. We are not the problem with the country. Trade Unions are not SEIU and do not like being lumped together with them. Many of us are quite conservative and fewer and fewer of my local brothers and sisters that I talk to are supporting Obama and his agenda. Historically the Republicans have not supported labor and have driven us away. There does need to be some kind of balance between business and its workers. That being said, I have never gotten a job from a poor person, so I don’t hate the rich. I have not voted Democrat in years and I can assure all that the bunch in the White House now has me in every bit the uproar that all of you are.
The FB post by Ms. Palin is so close to the hearts of many union workers. [...] Members as "mere followers" while the "union leaders" acting as "the boss". The end is always the same. Union leaders become as "rich" as the devil while the members remain "poor" and needy. This is true in my family's case. I am a liberal democratbut beginning to see the beauty and wisdom that is Sarah Palin. I'm almost there!
I'm not pretending that there has been some massive sea-shift in regards to union political support over one Facebook posting. I live in a state run by SEIU (thank you Jerry Brown) so I understand very well how unions operate. That said, I also understand that most union members are not left-wing radicals, which is what one pretty much has to be these days to agree with the current direction of the country. I do find these comments encouraging, however, and I hope that Governor Palin's plea sparks a conversation within the union rank-and- file.
I think Governor Palin was both bold and wise to answer attacks from AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka, in this manner. Not only did she expose him for the "thug" that he is, she also made his members think twice about about what it is their leaders are doing for them. I cannot recall any other national republican since Reagan, who attempted to go around the union leadership and talk directly to union members themselves. Given the antics, and the practices of union leaders, I know there are many more members who will identify with the sentiment in the Governor's statement to them.
On August 29, 2008, John McCain managed to give the nation a gift that, unlike most gifts, has grown in value rather than depreciated. I know Senator McCain is a bright man and a polished politician, but I don't believe he could have guessed the magnitude of his running mate selection. He knew her record, knew her family background, and knew her convictions. But certainly after the election, on November 4, 2008, he couldn't have known the impact she would have on the face of politics, the power she would wield in her future endorsements, and the lead she would take on issues such as health care, illegal immigration, and the Ground Zero Mosque. He certainly couldn't have envisioned her standing at the Lincoln Memorial on the anniversary of Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech delivering a speech of her own to a crowd reportedly larger than the one that gathered 47 years prior.
John McCain learned immediately after introducing Governor Palin to the world that the Left wouldn't play nice, and things were going to get very ugly, but I doubt he knew that the woman he tapped to stand alongside him would not only be able to weather the storms but emerge unscathed, undeterred, and unafraid.
Governor Palin's story speaks to me, as a woman, a message of never allowing gender to be a roadblock but a well of strength from which to draw. Her story speaks to me, an educator, of the potential within each life that dares to prepare, for as she says, open doors are defined simply as "preparation meeting opportunity." From one Christian to another, Governor Palin speaks to me a sermon, like those I've so often heard in church, of the "suddenly" moments God grants us, how in the blink of an eye one can enter her destiny with an awareness that she was born "for such a time as this."
I love my country more today than I did before "Sarah Palin Day" launched in Dayton, Ohio two years ago. I appreciate my freedom and those who sacrifice to protect it more than I ever did before that day. And like never before, I am committed to being a voice of common sense and righteousness, rather than embracing silent compliance to an anti-God, anti-American, damaging agenda that some would promote in the name of change. Governor Palin represents a willingness to speak truth despite the cost. She has unveiled and shattered in my mind the lie that it is somehow unthinkable and even unholy to call out others who are doing the unthinkable and the unholy. Many espouse the idea that one must sit idly by and do nothing rather than making some noise and rocking the boat. Not Governor Palin, and not I--not anymore.
After losing the election, she could have called it quits and retreated. After murderous miscreants set fire to her church, she could have sat down and said nothing more. After partisan piranhas tried to bankrupt her family and her state, she could have refused to fight back. After heartless hacks shamelessly attacked her children, she could have gathered them up and run to the hills. After the media became increasingly threatened and, therefore, increasingly hateful, she could have become bitter, thrown up her arms, and despaired. And who would have blamed her? The haters' intent has always been to crush her spirit, but if they have, she has certainly shown no signs of it. Instead, she continues to smile, continues to hope, and perseveres in the hard work it takes to take back America--and she doesn't seem to be slowing down one bit.
While overcoming incredible odds, Governor Palin has managed to be an inspiration to people who had never been inspired previously to get involved. She's lifted candidates out of anonymity into the forefront. She has battled for the respectful treatment of those with special needs. She has stood in the gap for the most vulnerable of us all--the unborn. She's been an advocate for those who selflessly serve our country. She has lifted her voice for fiscal sanity, limited government, and protecting our freedoms, our faith, and our Constitution. She has become a symbol for common sense, common decency, and the common man and woman.
And most of this has transpired in the last two years. Add to that the impressive resume' she already possessed prior to August 29, 2008--which is the reason Senator McCain tapped her to be his running mate to begin with--and you've got a leader who has brought America to the precipice of something great that we have yet to see in its fullness. I don't know for sure exactly where Governor Palin has set her future sights, but I feel confident in stating whatever road she chooses to ride, whichever path she opts to occupy, and whenever the time she takes that step, she'll travel with the right message, a storehouse of support, and, most of all, great content of character.
Yes, it was his birthday, but we got the gift. God bless Governor Palin, and God bless America!
You can read what I wrote last year on this anniversary here, here, here, and here.
Two years ago today, Governor Palin rocked our world when John McCain announced that she would be his running mate. For over an hour after her announcement, much of the World Wide Web was inaccessible, inundated with traffic all pointing to Wasilla as the world wanted to know, "who is this woman? Who is this Sarah Palin?"
Where Were You When...
Some folks such as Adam Brickley knew Gov. Palin and established websites seeking to have her nominated for the VP slot. For most of us, this moment was the first time we ever heard of her. In my case, I caught her speech on the radio just as it had begun, so I only heard her voice and her words. I did not know her name. I did not know what she looked like or where she came from. I would not find out any of those things for over an hour. There is a certain magic to Guglielmo Marconi's invention in that it allowed me - the listener - to hear her words and her message without pre-conceived notions associated with looks, or even names. The radio stripped that all away.
What I heard had me transfixed within two blocks. I had to pull over to the side of the road. In Gov. Palin's words, in her voice, in her message, I felt as if I was bearing witness to the resurrection of Ronald Reagan. When I finally did see Gov. Palin's picture and read her biography in a foreign news site, and pieced together with her Reagan-esque message, I literally fell out of the chair to the floor in my tech support office, gasping "holy (two of the most common expletives)"!
Rocking Our World
"The world shook, the world trembled," this RNC bio video declared quite truthfully. Her sonic boom certainly rocked my world; she stole my heart, and she divided my calendar. "Sarah may not be six feet tall, but she is a self-made giant." Today, we celebrate the woman who to her supporters stands 10 feet tall and whose vertical climb is limitless.
06-4122 / AK (cn 4122) Air Force Capt. Jammie Jamieson going into the vertical. She serves with the 525th Fighter Squadron at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska, and is the first combat-ready woman fighter pilot to qualify to fly the F-22A Raptor.
A woman based out of Elmendorf Air Force Base entering a vertical climb: there could not be a better, more providential homage to a little girl who tried to fly. Today Gov. Palin's sonic booms make the earth shake and tremble. Her biggest one is still yet to come - in 874 days.
* Just how far to the left are Anna Holmes, founding editor of Jezebel, and Rebecca Traister, author of Big Girls Don’t Cry? In a New York Times op-ed co-authored by the "progressive" pair, they rather surprisingly let a big, feral cat out of the bag.
The opinion piece is just so much anti-Palin drivel, and the seething jealousy drips from every paragraph. But that's not the surprising part of an op-ed which bemoans the fact that the Left has no anti-Palin to call its very own. The slip of the keyboard is found in this nugget from the article:
"Since the 2008 election, progressive leaders have done little to address the obvious national appetite for female leadership. And despite (or because of) their continuing obsession with Ms. Palin, they have done nothing to stop an anti-choice, pro-abstinence, socialist-bashing Tea Party enthusiast from becoming the 21st century symbol of American women in politics."
Socialist-bashing?
These two moonbats are so far out there in la-la-leftist land that they actually express their indignation over Gov. Palin's criticism of socialism. They must believe that being a socialist is something to actually be proud of! They must think that those who believe in economic freedom should be tolerant of socialists. We can only imagine the polite cocktail party conversation that goes something like this:
"I understand your friend Zelda is a socialist."
"Yes... What of it?"
"Oh, not that there's anything wrong with that, of course..."
The problem is that there is plenty wrong with socialism, as this American Thinker commentary explains:
In the late 1930s, the noted economist Friedrich Von Hayek wrote his landmark pamphlet "Road to Serfdom," laying bare the diseased skeleton of socialist/utopian thought that had permeated academia and the salons of his day. With an economy of words that showcased the significance of his conclusion, he pointed out the Achilles heel of collectivist dogma: for a planned economy to succeed, there must be central planners, who by necessity will insist on universal commitment to their plan.
How do you attain total commitment to a goal from a free people? Well, you don't. Some percentage will always disagree, even if only for the sake of being contrary or out of a desire to be left alone. When considering a program as comprehensive as a government-planned economy, there are undoubtedly countless points of contention, such as how we will choose the planners, how we will order our priorities when assigning them importance within the plan, how we will allocate resources when competing interests have legitimate claims, who will make these decisions, and perhaps more pertinent to our discussion, how those decisions will be enforced. A rift forming on even one of these issues is enough to bring the gears of this progressive endeavor grinding to a halt. This fatal flaw in the collectivist design cannot be re-engineered. It is an error so critical that the entire ideology must be scrapped.
Von Hayek accurately foretold the fate that would befall dissenters from the plan. They simply could not be allowed to get in the way. Opposition would soon be treated as subversion, with debate shriveling to non-existence under the glare of the state. Those who refused compliance would first be marginalized, then dehumanized, and finally (failing re-education) eliminated. Collectivism and individualism cannot long share the same bed. They are political oil and water, and neither can compromise its position without eventually succumbing to the other. The history of the twentieth century is littered with the remains of those who became "enemies of the state" for merely drawing attention to this flaw. As Von Hayek predicted, the socialist vision would not be achieved without bloodshed.
Conservative women from Cassy Fiano to Lori Ziganto have argued that the feminism of the left is no longer about empowering women, but rather all about radical leftist politics. By showing their outrage over Sarah Palin's criticism of socialism, Ms. Holmes and Ms. Traister are proving that point made by conservative feminist commentators.
