Hate Sarah Palin, Hate the TEA Party Movement (Updated)

- by Josh Painter
*
The political left, which long ago declared all-out war on the TEA Party movement, has always had the enthusiastic assistance of a corrupt and compliant media to help it smear the ordinary Americans who have turned activist to try to restore some degree of fiscal sanity to the nation's runaway government. Now the hard left and their media left attack dogs have a third partner in their Axis of Acrimony - the RINOs.

Not that the Vichy Republicans haven't always hated the Tea Parties as much as the other two members of their unholy triumvirate. They just haven't been as vocal about it as they've been recently. Leftist TEA Party haters such as Margaret Carlson (via Bloomberg) and William Yeomans (via Politico and RealClearPolitics) have seized on a old meme which had its genesis two years ago in an Obama Administration Department of Homeland Security report characterizing the grandmothers and proud American military veterans of the TEA parties as "right wing extremists." Thanks to the rabid rhetoric of the in-the-hip-pocket-of-the-DNC media mobsters, the threat those mere "extremists" pose to the Beltway Establishment's spending addiction has been elevated to that of "hostage takers" and now "terrorists."

Though the anti-TEA Party rhetoric of the RINOs hasn't been as hysterical as that of their hard left comrades, it is no less acrimonious. It has taken the recent debt ceiling battle for the RINO element of the Axis to fully blow their cover. Thursday, Sen. Lisa Murkowski put the blame for the current debt "crisis" on the House TEA party Caucus. A Wednesday Wall Street Journal editorial mocked TEA Partiers as "Hobbits." And Washington Post House RINO
Jennifer Rubin late last night smeared not just the TEA Party but all fiscal conservatives who believe the county needs a balanced budget amendment as "extremists." So they've come full circle back to that 2009 Obama Administration rhetoric.

So other than their disdain for the TEA Parties and the concept of fiscal responsibility, what else do Jennifer Rubin, Lisa Murkowski and the editors of the Wall Street Journal share in common? They are Palinophobes, one and all. Though Murkowski's hatred of Sarah Palin is deeply personal, the animosity of Rubin and the WSJ editors toward the GOP's first female vice presidential candidate is more that of the garden variety talking points regurgitator. But it is still Palin hatred, a fully grown poisonous plant nurtured by Republicans In Name Only from the gift of a seedling by their leftist crime partners in the Axis of Acrimony.

Update: Kathleen Parker, another Palin hater, drops her own load of RINO manure on the TEA Party and Gov. Palin, as Dan Riehl observes. Appears that all the usual suspects are crawling out from under their rocks to cast stones, being -- in their own minds, at least -- completely without sin.

CBS News Interviews Scott Conroy about Governor Palin's 2012 Intentions

By Adrienne Ross - www.motivationtruth.com

Scott Conroy of Real Clear Politics broke the news just a few days ago that Governor Palin is keynoting a tea party rally in Iowa on September 3rd. Immediately, speculations began to fly. Will this be the day she announces her 2012 run for the presidency? Good question. It is, after all, three years to the date of her stellar 2008 RNC speech.

Personally, I don't think she will announce on any date that connects her to the McCain campaign. Instead, I'm hopeful that she'll announce sooner. Of course, that's just speculation on my part. As most people know, no one is really certain what Governor Palin will do. Or more accurately, as they say in Alaska, "Only God and Todd know. Only God and Todd." Governor Palin is nothing if not unconventional, which is just one reason we respect her so vehemently. She is the antithesis of politics-as-usual. The good news is we'll all know soon enough.

CBS News conducted an interview with Scott Conroy in which he discussed the likelihood of the Governor entering the race. Enjoy:

Congressional Freshmen – For Such A Time As This

Governor Palin today posted on Facebook:

Out here in proverbial politico flyover country, we little folk are watching the debt ceiling debate with great interest and concern. Today I re-read the open letter I wrote to Republican Freshman Members of Congress in November 2010, just days after they were ushered into office in an historic landslide victory due in large part to the activism of commonsense patriots who are considered part of the Tea Party movement. I respectfully ask these GOP Freshman to re-read this letter and remember us “little people” who believed in them, donated to their campaigns, spent hours tirelessly volunteering for them, and trusted them with our votes. This new wave of public servants may recall that they were sent to D.C. for such a time as this.

The original letter is pasted below, with added emphasis to certain passages that I feel are especially relevant to the current discussion.

All my best to you, GOP Freshmen, from up here in the Last Frontier.

Sincerely,

Sarah Palin

P.S. Everyone I talk to still believes in contested primaries.

November 13, 2010

Welcome to all Republican Freshmen and congratulations!

Congratulations to all of you for your contribution to this historic election, and for the contributions I am certain you will make to our country in the next two years. Your victory was hard fought, and the success belongs entirely to you and the staff and volunteers who spent countless hours working for this chance to put government back on the side of the people. Now you will come to Washington to serve your nation and leave your mark on history by reining in government spending, preserving our freedoms at home, and restoring America’s leadership abroad. Some of you have asked for my thoughts on how best to proceed in the weeks and months ahead and how best to advance an agenda that can move our country forward. I have a simple answer: stick to the principles that propelled your campaigns. When you take your oath to support and defend our Constitution and to faithfully discharge the duties of your office, remember that present and future generations of “We the People” are counting on you to stand by that oath. Never forget the people who sent you to Washington. Never forget the trust they placed in you to do the right thing.

The task before you is daunting because so much damage has been done in the last two years, but I believe you have the chance to achieve great things.

Republicans campaigned on a promise to rein in out-of-control government spending and to repeal and replace the massive, burdensome, and unwanted health care law President Obama and the Democrat Congress passed earlier this year in defiance of the will of the majority of the American people. These are promises that you must keep. Obamacare is a job-killer, a regulatory nightmare, and an enormous unfunded mandate. The American people don’t want it and we can’t afford it. We ask, with all due respect, that you remember your job will be to work to replace this legislation with real reform that relies on free market principles and patient-centered policies. The first step is, of course, to defund Obamacare.

You’ve also got to be deadly serious about cutting the deficit. Despite what some would like us to believe, tax cuts didn’t get us into the mess we’re in. Government spending did. Tough decisions need to be made about reducing government spending. The longer we put them off, the worse it will get. We need to start by cutting non-essential spending. That includes stopping earmarks (because abuse of the earmark process created the “gateway-drug” that allowed backroom deals and bloated budgets), canceling all further spending on the failed Stimulus program, and rolling back non-discretionary spending to 2008 levels. You can do more, but this would be a good start.

In order to avert a fiscal disaster, we will also need to check the growth of spending on our entitlement programs. That will be a huge challenge, but it must be confronted head on. We must do it in a humane way that honors the government’s current commitments to our fellow Americans while also keeping faith with future generations. We cannot rob from our children and grandchildren’s tomorrow to pay for our unchecked spending today. Beyond that, we need to reform the way Congress conducts business in order to make it procedurally easier to cut spending than to increase it. We need to encourage zero-based budgeting practices in D.C. like the kind fiscally conservative mayors and governors utilize to balance their budgets and reduce unnecessary spending.

There in the insulated and isolated Beltway you will be far removed from the economic pain felt by so many Americans who are out of work. Please remember that if we want real job growth, we must create a stable investment climate by ending the tidal wave of overly burdensome regulations coming out of Washington. Businesses need certainty – and freedom that incentivizes competition – to grow and expand our workforce.

The last thing our small businesses need is tax hikes. It falls to the current Democrat-controlled Congress to decide on the future of the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts. If it does not permanently renew all of them, you should move quickly to do so in the new Congress. It would remove from households and businesses the threat of a possible $3.8 trillion tax hike hitting all Americans at the worst possible moment, with our economy struggling to recover from a deep recession! You must continue to remind Democrats that the people they are dismissing as “rich” are the small business owners who create up to 70% of all jobs in this country!

Another issue of vital importance is border security. Americans expect our leadership in Washington to act now to secure our borders. Don’t fall for the claims of those who suggest that we can’t secure our borders until we simultaneously deal with the illegal immigrants already here. Let’s deal with securing the border first. That alone is a huge challenge that has been ignored for far too long.

On foreign policy and national security, I urge you to stick to our principles: strong defense, free trade, nurturing allies, and steadfast opposition to America’s enemies. We are the most powerful country on earth and the world is better off because of it. Our president does not seem to understand this. If we withdraw from the world, the world will become a much more dangerous place. You must push President Obama to finish the job right in Iraq and get the job done in Afghanistan, otherwise we who are war-weary will forever question why America’s finest are sent overseas to make the ultimate sacrifice with no clear commitment to victory from those who send them. You should be prepared to stand with the President against Iran’s nuclear aspirations using whatever means necessary to ensure the mullahs in Tehran do not get their hands on nuclear weapons. And you can stand with the Iranian people who oppose the tyrannical rule of the clerics and concretely support their efforts to win their freedom – even if the President does not.

You need to say no to cutting the necessities in our defense budget when we are engaged in two wars and face so many threats – from Islamic extremists to a nuclear Iran to a rising China. As Ronald Reagan said, “We will always be prepared, so we may always be free.” You will also have the opportunity to push job-creating free trade agreements with allies like Colombia and South Korea. You can stand with allies like Israel, not criticize them. You can let the President know what you believe – Jerusalem is the capital of Israel, not a settlement. And for those of you joining the United States Senate, don’t listen to desperate politically-motivated arguments about the need for hasty consideration of the “New START” treaty. Insist on your right to patient and careful deliberation of New START to address very real concerns about verification, missile defense, and modernization of our nuclear infrastructure. No New START in the lame duck!

You can stand against misguided proposals to try dangerous, evil terrorists in the US; precipitously close the Guantanamo prison; and a return to the failed policies of the past in treating the war on terror as a law enforcement problem. Finally, you have a platform to express the support of the American people for all those around the world seeking their freedom that God has bestowed within all mankind’s being – from Burma and Egypt to Russia and Venezuela – because the spread of liberty increases our own security. You, freshmen lawmakers, can and will be powerful voices in support of foreign policies that protect our interests and promote our values! Thank you for being willing to fight for our values and our freedom!

In all this, you should extend a hand to President Obama and Democrats in Congress. After this election, they may finally be prepared to work with Republicans on some of these issues for the good of the country. And if not, we will all be looking forward to 2012.

Remember that some in the media will love you when you stray from the time-tested truths that built America into the most exceptional nation on earth. When the Left in the media pat you on the back, quickly reassess where you are and readjust, for the liberals’ praise is a warning bell you must heed. Trust me on that.

I and most Americans are so excited for you. Working together, we have every right to be optimistic about our future. We can be hopeful because real hope lies in the ingenuity, generosity, and boundless courage of the everyday Americans who make our country exceptional. These are the men and women who sent you to Washington. May your work and leadership honor their faith in you.

With sincere congratulations and a big Alaskan heart,

Sarah Palin

Observations re: Whether Sarah Palin is Running for President

This was written by Glenn Briggs. Mr Briggs is an active Organize4Palin (O4P) CA volunteer who lives in Walnut Creek, CA.

Observations re: Whether Sarah Palin is Running for President

By Glenn Briggs

Why have some candidates already declared their intention to run for the Presidency?

They need to build name recognition so that they are known widely in the country. They need to get their positions on significant issues expressed and known widely so that they convince voters to support them and their positions. They need to express what they would do were they to be elected. They need to get their qualifications listed and accepted. They need to separate themselves from the other candidates so that voters see them as unique and preferable. They need to establish support staff who can help them achieve all these needs.

How much time, effort, staff and money is required to achieve the above “needs” would be different for each candidate. Thus, with these factors variable for each candidate, the timing of entry into the fray is likely to be very different for each candidate, assuming that they are endeavoring to manage their available resources to maximum positive effect.

Now, let's observe these factors vis a vis Sarah Palin.

Her name recognition is already higher than that of any other GOP candidate and, in my view, equal to or higher than that of Barack Obama.

Sarah Palin has been clearly stating her positions on the issues, starting with her actions as Mayor of Wasilla, as Governor of Alaska and as the candidate for Vice President. Example – her acceptance speech to the RNC in 2008 is full of her positions. And since, her Facebook Notes, op-eds, and speeches have clearly made known widely what her positions are on all issues before us as voters.

With the expose of her emails as Governor of Alaska, she has been shown to be extremely qualified as a Chief Executive. Coupled with the truths clearly enunciated by the documentary “The Undefeated”, Sarah Palin's achievements as Mayor and Governor show she's not a Politician as we think of that profession, but is, instead, a Public Servant – with the ideal qualities of a Leader, one who would guide our country back to it's former level of exceptionalism and halt the trend toward Marxism so evident in the current administration.

With all this, Sarah Palin has clearly separated herself from all the other candidates. She has been vetted as no other candidate in modern time. She has been the lone opposition to Obama over the past three years. She has demonstrated enormous courage in the face of vicious attacks on her and her family and significantly, virtually no attacks on her positions on issues.

As for a dedicated support staff, nationwide, there are numerous support groups dedicated to Governor Palin growing rapidly in quality, numbers and political insight burgeoning across the country. No other candidate has that level of grass-roots support organized. It matters not that these support organizations are not directed in their efforts by Sarah Palin. They are committed to her and will immediately swing into powerful open activity the moment she declares. No other candidate has such resources to call into action. Sarah does.

So, where do we come out on all this? Is Sarah Palin running for the Presidency? Emphatically, YES! All these observations show clearly that all her actions over these past three years have been to build on these “needs”, preparing for her formal declaration. Any other inductive conclusion is nothing more than denial of reality. And it is because of all this preparation that she is far out ahead of all the other candidates and thus can “indulge” in the luxury of delaying her formal commitment, giving her “opponents” the opportunity to “stub their toes” through gaffes and attacks on each other, etc. and showing clearly their separation from Sarah (not to their advantage). Make no mistake, it costs money to run a presidential campaign and many of the early candidates will run out as their “needs” are not achieved and their support resources dwindle. Timing of entry into the fray can be extremely critical – too early can exhaust vital resources, too late can result in “too high a hill to climb”. Sarah Palin is faced with neither of these extremes at this point and won't be, as she is an extremely astute player in this game. She will make her moves with the utmost competence. Momentum is vital and Sarah Palin has demonstrated throughout her stewardship career that she is a master at building momentum.

Sarah Palin will win the Presidency in November, 2012.

Is Sarah Palin as unelectable as Ronald Reagan Was?

Abie Rubin wrote an outstanding guest submission piece that was posted on Conservatives4Palin that discusses the issue of electability in a Time Magazine article written in 1980 about Ronald Reagan. You see a lot of comparisons between Ronald Reagan and Sarah Palin – their charisma, their political philosophy and their ability to speak directly to the people – but the one comparison that doesn't get much analysis is how she compares to the "unelectable" Reagan when he campaigned for the presidency.

According to today's Real Clear Politics numbers, Obama leads Palin in head to head polling 55% - 35%. In January of 2008, Carter led Reagan in the Gallup polls 62% - 33%. In March 1980, when the Time article was written, Reagan was still 25% down to Carter. Remember, this was after Reagan had already secured the nomination.

It's interesting to note that Jimmy Carter's job approval rating in January 1980 was at 55%. Where Obama's will be in January 2012 is hard to tell; but writing off Palin or any other potential GOP nominee at this point is about as stable a bet as predicting that Obama will be at 55% job approval in January (and even if he is, you still couldn't rule out the GOP nominee based on what happened to Carter). Obama is currently at 44% approval according to Rasmussen with 43% strongly disapproving of his job performance.

Bill Schneider at CNN warned not to bet the presidency on polls 1 year out in an article written in November of 2007 when Hillary Clinton and Rudy Giuliani were the front runners for their respective parties.
The year-before polls got it wrong twice. In 1979, the polls predicted Carter would beat Reagan. And in 1991, they predicted the first President Bush would defeat Bill Clinton. In both cases, voters a year out expected the president to get re-elected.
This year's Republican field is more volatile than usual. Romney may be in the lead, but he must be thinking about Hillary Clinton in the back of his mind. Santorum, who would be viewed as a good conservative candidate in any other year must feel like the invisible man. Pawlenty probably wishes he held off announcing and did a bus tour instead. Bachmann, although happy with her numbers, has to be wondering what will happen if Palin was jump in. The other candidates continue to fight for limited real estate in a crowded field.

With all of that said, Sarah Palin continues to run in the top tier of candidates. Assuming Palin is in a virtual tie for 2nd place with Michele Bachmann based on margin of error, she is defeating nearly the entire field of both announced and unannounced GOP candidates without having signed an FEC candidate form.

Talk continues about the impact she'll have should she run. "All of the Republican candidates right now are looking over their shoulder to see if Hurricane Sarah might strike!” writes Steffen Schmidt at Iowa State Daily (h/t Conservatives4Palin). A Palin announcement could be a political earthquake that will grab national attention and catapult her candidacy into a position of instant momentum coming out of the gate. Where she goes from there would be up to her and how well she campaigns.

You'll hear the arguments again from establishment types that she is too polarizing to win the general election. Along with that you'll get the same argument that was presented about Reagan not being able to appeal to moderates and independents. Yet, it was Reagan who forged a national coalition of independents and "Reagan Democrats" that helped sweep him back into office in 1984. Today, the so-called polarizing Reagan is revered by people across the political spectrum.

Apparently, not much has changed among the GOP establishment in how they assess their candidates despite the Reagan model. You may find this Time Magazine assessment of Reagan very similar in tone to the one we would expect to hear should Palin get the 2012 nomination:
Some party operatives are plainly unhappy with his selection. In Massachusetts, where both Bush and Anderson defeated Reagan, party leaders are not yet reconciled to the Reagan candidacy. Says one: "There's a vacuum of leadership at the national level; and what appears to be the Republican Party's response? A 69-year-old man who has done virtually nothing for years.
There is a lot we can learn from history. Just as the country made the mistake in 1976 to elect Carter, they made the same mistake and elected Obama in 2008. Just as the country forgot how effective the Kennedy tax cuts were in the 1960's and returned to the Keynesian disasters of the 1970's, they enjoyed an economic boom under the small government, low taxation philosophy of Reagan before rolling it it all back to the hybrid crony-capitalist, quasi-socialist state that it is today.

Just as the causes of getting into a mess like this are strikingly similar throughout history, so are the solutions. Sarah Palin holds the same ace in her hand as Ronald Reagan did when he was given the charge of guiding America back to prosperity. She is positioned at a similar point of cyclical history.

The most important line of Ronald Reagan’s 1981 inauguration speech was this:
It is time to reawaken this industrial giant, to get government back within its means, and to lighten our punitive tax burden. And these will be our first priorities, and on these principles, there will be no compromise.
Reagan knew that if he made America business friendly again, he could generate economic growth through production. Production creates real dollars because tangible goods and services and the labor which rightfully goes into producing those is what really generates money. The Keynesian approach to the economy doesn’t work because it takes the taxed portion of money that has already been created through production.

Reagan knew that there was a product out there and a demand for that product that could generate the economic growth necessary to pull the country out of the malaise of the Carter economy. The Soviet Union threatened our way of life in such a visible way that defeating them would require a major reawakening in the defense industry, particularly in manufacturing and the industries which would be needed to build and service the military equipment that would be necessary in order to go up against the Soviet Union.

Defense contractors became productive, innovative and profitable, which in turn resulted in collateral businesses forming. You need housing for those who live near the plant. They need cars. They buy coffee at the deli on the way to work. They pick up dinner or go to a restaurant after work. Their homes need to be landscaped. And so on and so on, jobs are created.

One could argue that it was taxpayer money that was used for the military budget (which is true). But when this money was put back out into the private sector, it acted like a true investment that fueled economic growth with the production it spurred creating capital for businesses, which in turn had a domino effect on the job market and the economy. For all the dollars that went out, twice as much of it was returned to the treasury in the form of increasing tax revenues.

Capital flowed through the system as more money was generated in the private sector through real growth and production when taxes were lowered and regulation scaled back. Private investments fueled the continued growth once the economy began to recover. Supply side theory worked because once the pump was primed, the size and scope of government could be reduced as more and more needs were taken care of in the free market.

History comes similarily full circle. Sarah Palin knows that there is a product out there and a demand for that product that could generate the economic growth necessary to get us closer toward being energy independent. An unstable Middle East threatens our way of life in such a visible way that producing more of our own energy here at home will require a major reawakening in the oil, gas, coal and alternative fuel industries - particularly in manufacturing and related industries that will be needed to build and service all the equipment that is necessary to ratchet up drilling and exploration.

Heavy equipment manufacturers and contractors who lease the rigs and do the exploration will began to see real growth in their businesses which in turn will result in collateral businesses forming This will cause an increase in hiring. You need housing for those who live near the rig. They need cars. They buy coffee at the deli on the way to work. They pick up dinner or go to a restaurant on their way home. Their homes need to be landscaped. And so on and so on, jobs will be created.

Put aside mine and others' adoring Reaganism and look at the reality of what really happened in 1980. The people voted against Carter. Reagan was not the mythic figure we see him as today. Although he had a devout following, those who weren't as sure would have stuck with an incumbent who was doing well. But, out of the ashes of the Carter disaster came a leader who by many standards had been underestimated.

Those who were worried about Reagan's "extremism" or polarizing caricature decided that it was a less risky proposition to elect him than it was to leave Carter in there to continue the economic carnage that affected the lives of everyday people. It would not be until 1984 that the public would come to see Reagan as the great one who could successfully lead us back to the shining city.

The same road lies ahead for Palin. She has a devout following and there will be those who are concerned with the future of our country who will support her if and when she gets the nomination. But, ultimately it will come down to whether or not America wants to allow Obama to continue the economic carnage or overlook the caricature of Palin and give her a chance to do what she's already proven she can do in executive positions in the past.

Despite the concerns some may have, it could ultimately come down to that moment in the voting booth when the skeptic has to make a choice between Obama and Palin. Given that choice, I can't see anyone in their right mind (other than a kool aid drinking liberal) pulling the lever for Obama.

If the public can be convinced to look at Governor Palin's record and see who she really is without the media filter and the caricaturing of her, it's possible to get enough people to feel comfortable enough to vote against Obama much the same way as Reagan was able to create enough of a comfort level with the "there you go again" moment he had in the debate with Carter.

So, when people tell you that Sarah Palin can’t win in 2012, don’t listen. Barack Obama is so much of a disaster that the American people should be more willing to take the chance on Palin rather than go with the certainty that Obama will continue to destroy the economy for another four years.

The battle for the presidency is going to take place in the GOP primary. The winner gets to put their name in the "not Barack Obama again" box. Put Sarah Palin's name in that box and you get a bonus that you won't get with an establishment candidate. You will get someone who will drill, cut taxes and be good for small buinesses.

Whether you are convinced yet or not about Sarah Palin is not the question. If she gets the nomination, the real question is whether you are convinced yet or not that Barack Obama has to go. Remember Reagan. We'll deal with the shining city, the morning in America and the "Sarah the Great" stuff in 2016.

Scott Conroy: Palin to Keynote Tea Party Rally in Iowa

By Adrienne Ross - www.motivationtruth.com

Via Scott Conroy of Real Clear Politics:
In the latest indication that her sights are still set on a presidential run, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has accepted an invitation to keynote a Tea Party rally in Waukee, Iowa, on Sept. 3, RealClearPolitics has learned.

The Labor Day weekend visit to the nation's first voting state comes after Palin indicated during an appearance on Fox News earlier this month that she would make her decision about whether to launch a campaign in August or September.

All signs now point to September as the month when Palin would throw her hat into the ring, as logistical concerns ranging from fundraising to getting her name on the ballot in various states would likely preclude further delay.

Many prominent political analysts and Republican operatives have expressed skepticism that Palin is seriously considering a presidential bid, since she has not taken many of the steps that candidates traditionally take before jumping into the race, such as signing early-state consultants, contacting key powerbrokers and boosting their travel schedules.

But Palin has a long history of shunning the Republican Party machinery and taking an unconventional approach to campaigns -- a mind-set that appears to have been in play throughout the past several months.

Palin's latest appearance in Iowa will come just two days after "The Undefeated," a documentary film spotlighting her accomplishments in Alaska, will be released on Pay-Per-View and video-on-demand. In the film, Palin is portrayed as a continual thorn in the Republican establishment's side. And it is the GOP, rather than the Democratic Party, that garners the better part of the movie's scorn.

If Palin were to announce a White House run, the theme of her campaign would almost certainly focus on resisting the ingrained political culture and what she sees as being wrong with the status quo, and much of the Republican Party itself, in addition to continuing to offer one of the most strident contrasts to President Obama's policies.

The outdoor rally on the first Saturday in September will take place at a field in Waukee, located just outside of Des Moines, and will be hosted by the Tea Party of America -- an Iowa-based political action committee that was founded in May.

The midday affair will be the new group's kickoff event and is sure to generate a large crowd and massive media attention.

One of the Tea Party of America's co-founders, Charlie Gruschow, had previously founded the Des Moines Tea Party before splintering off to start a new group with some like-minded colleagues.

Gruschow praised the work of a highly motivated group of volunteers who have been setting the groundwork in Iowa for a Palin campaign, which almost all of them deem to be inevitable.

"I can only surmise that she's very, very popular here," Gruschow said of Palin's level of support among Republican caucus-goers in Iowa. "And it didn't hurt at all when she introduced her movie in Pella. The feedback I've gotten was it was an awesome movie, and there are more people becoming more endeared to her."

Gov. Palin on Greta: "It's the Spending, Stupid!"

"It's the Spending, Stupid!" Governor Palin said near the conclusion of her single-segment interview with Greta Van Susteren tonight from her home studio in Wasilla, Alaska. Gov. Palin dismissed the August 2 deadline to raise the debt ceiling as "more Obama drama," and noted that even US Treasurer Timothy Geithner said the United States will not default. "It will not be Armageddon, it's not life or death," Gov. Palin said.
"Scaring the American people is exactly what President Obama was doing in that bizarre speech last night...[he] is getting real good at fear-mongering," Gov. Palin said. Obama's policies are putting the country "on the path to bankruptcy" and the American public is tired of the games."

"Congress needs to be reasonable and rational....Bankruptcy is on the way if we don't control our over-spend."

Gov. Palin said Congress should not retreat and there is no need to reinvent the wheel. "Cut, cap and balance passed the House. It was the right plan," she said adding that the plan's core elements are what common-sense conservatives want. The plan did not pass the Senate and Obama threatened to veto it.

Van Susteren noted that several Democrats including Richard Durbin and Harry Reid once supported a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution. Gov. Palin said that it was typical hypocrisy, saying one thing as a candidate, then doing the opposite once elected.

"They used to say 'it's the economy, stupid!' Now, 'it's the spending, stupid!'" Gov. Palin said. She concluded that Obama's economic policies are immoral and unethical by handing the bill for today's spending to our children and grandchildren. "It does not make sense. Obama does not know what he is doing," Gov. Palin said as the interview came to its close.

Trevor Drinkwater, CEO of ARC Entertainment, said, “Since the film opened in select markets across the country on July 15th we have been inundated with requests from people wanting the film to be made available in their market. After methodically analyzing the most effective ways to bring this galvanizing film to the widest audience as soon as possible we have determined that continued limited theatrical distribution, Video-on-Demand, Pay-Per-View and DVD sales will be the best modalities by which to deliver this film as widely as possible. We have created partnerships with national cable, satellite and mass retailers to achieve our distribution goals.”

“This title is absolutely perfect for Video-on-Demand and Pay-Per-View backed by a traditional and significant marketing campaign. We are incredibly excited about having this film made available to the entire country earlier than expected,” said Glenn Bracken Evans, the film’s producer. “A traditional windowed release would not have allowed us to maximize viewership of this highly sought after film,” continued Evans.

“The Undefeated is a terrific case study for a digital cinema release. We have been nimble, efficient and brought this film to many eager viewers with almost no turn around time,” said Jill Newhouse Calcaterra, chief marketing officer at Cinedigm, the film’s digital distributor. “We look forward to bringing this film to many more audiences across the country during the next month.”

Filmmaker Stephen K. Bannon stated, “Given the strong audience reaction we have determined there is overwhelming demand for us to get this film out broadly enough to cover the entire nation in September and October. In a 90-day period from August to November we will be able to effectively cover the nation through multiple distribution modalities.”

The Video-on-Demand and Pay-Per-View deals with strategic partners will be backed by a multi-million-dollar advertising campaign to heighten awareness in all markets to the film’s availability.

Written and directed by Stephen K. Bannon and produced by Victory Film Group co-founder Glenn Bracken Evans and Dan Fleuette, “The Undefeated" was independently financed by Victory Film Group and its partners.

The film debuted theatrically to multiple sold-out runs and enthusiastic audience support with weekend per-screen averages above $11,000 in top markets. The film was rushed to select digital theatres in only three weeks, and was marketed entirely through social media and grass roots efforts with virtually no traditional media spend.

The film includes leading prominent political commentators Mark Levin, Tammy Bruce and Andrew Breitbart as well as conservative activists Kate Obenshain, Sonnie Johnson and Jamie Radtke. Additionally, the film features interviews with Alaskan civil servants, elected officials and advisors who were involved in Alaskan politics during Governor Palin’s tenure.

Chicago Screening of 'The Undefeated' Opens Eyes to Real Governor Palin

By Adrienne Ross - www.motivationtruth.com

Yesterday, The Undefeated paid a trip to Chicago for a one-day showing of the documentary. Here's what Frank Main of the Chicago Sun-Times had to report:
The Chicago screening of a new Sarah Palin documentary Saturday was a political love fest for her conservative supporters.

But Tea Party members weren’t the only ones who came away from the film with admiration for the former Alaska governor and 2008 vice-presidential candidate.

Eddie Bryant, who attended the screening of “The Undefeated” at downtown’s Gene Siskel Film Center, is an African-American and Chicago Democrat. The retired 67-year-old Union Pacific employee said he was surprised to find he actually likes Palin.

“I came because my friend is always talking about Sarah Palin. People say this lady is brainless. She’s not only smart, but she’s a clean-government person. I gained respect for her,” Bryant said.

[...]

The director, Stephen K. Bannon, told the audience afterward: “My objective was to drive a stake in the heart of ‘Caribou Barbie,’ ” referring to the airhead image of Palin in the media. He said traditional movie critics have “eviscerated” his film, but he’s shown it to liberal audiences in New York and other cities and they “came out of this with a grudging admiration of what she’s accomplished.”

Read more here.

Mr. Bryant's reaction is exactly why people need to see this film. Governor Palin is not the person the mainstream media have made her out to be. She's not really even the person the McCain campaign displayed to the nation--not fully. I believe many in the media see the Governor's value and are afraid of the threat she is to the left. The McCain campaign, both failing to fully recognize her value and threatened by her appeal, allowed their own sense of insecurity and gross mismanagement to get in the way, as Mr. Chuck Heath said, of "let[ting] Sarah be Sarah." The Undefeated, however, unveils who this Sarah is, displays what she's accomplished, and makes it clear that she's qualified to be President of the United States.

So once again, get your tickets here--and some for others--to see the film. If it's not showing in your area, vote here to bring it there.

Lame Duck President

Governor Palin today posted on Facebook:

After listening to the President’s press conference today, let’s keep in mind the following:

This is the same president who proposed an absurdly irresponsible budget that would increase our debt by trillions of dollars, and whose party failed to even put forward a budget in over 800 days! This is the same president who is pushing our country to the brink because of his reckless spending on things like the nearly trillion dollar “stimulus” boondoggle. This is the same president who ignored his own debt commission’s recommendations and demonized the voices of fiscal sanity who proposed responsible plans to reform our entitlement programs and rein in our dangerous debt trajectory. This is the same president who wanted to push through an increase in the debt ceiling that didn’t include any cuts in government spending! This is the same president who wants to slam Americans with tax hikes to cover his reckless spending, but has threatened to veto a bill proposing a balanced budget amendment. This is the same president who hasn’t put forward a responsible plan himself, but has rejected reasonable proposals that would tackle our debt. This is the same president who still refuses to understand that the American electorate rejected his big government agenda last November. As I said in Madison, Wisconsin, at the Tax Day Tea Party rally, “We don’t want it. We can’t afford it. And we are unwilling to pay for it.”

Now the President is outraged because the GOP House leadership called his bluff and ended discussions with him because they deemed him an obstruction to any real solution to the debt crisis.

He has been deemed a lame duck president. And he is angry now because he is being treated as such.

His foreign policy strategy has been described as “leading from behind.” Well, that’s his domestic policy strategy as well. Why should he be surprised that he’s been left behind in the negotiations when he’s been leading from behind on this debt crisis?

Thank you, GOP House leaders. Please don’t get wobbly on us now.

2012 can’t come soon enough.

Bristol Palin Talks Teen Pregnancy, Birth Control with Dr. Drew

Bristol Palin last night discussed birth control, rape, and teen pregnancy, including the circumstances surrounding her own pregnancy in a hard-hitting interview with HLN's Dr. Drew.
Bristol acknowledged that at the time of Tripp's conception, she had skipped three or four does of the birth control pill she had been prescribed. Dr. Drew pointed out that a woman using birth control pills cannot skip a single dose, or the contraception will fail. Bristol said she is not an "abstinence preacher," but instead wants young girls to make smart decisions. This means either abstinence or properly using birth control pills, and never skipping a dose.

Dr. Drew said the circumstances surrounding Bristol's first sexual encounter would constitute rape in California and questioned her on Alaska's laws. Bristol said she was unsure of what Alaska's laws were but felt her encounter was consensual. Bristol added that she maintained a relationship with Levi "for years on end" following her first encounter. Bristol regarded the encounter not as rape, but as being predicated upon a "series of stupid decisions" beginning when she lied to her mother about where she was going.

Bristol spoke about the difficulties involved with being a teen mother. She said young women need to be particularly careful, because it is the woman and her family who left to deal with the consequences of the pregnancy. The man involved usually walks away with little or no consequence to him.

In show prep, Bristol and Dr. Drew discussed Alaska, and how large, far and remote it is.

Students4Palin Taking Responsibility

Originally published at: Conservatives4Palin: Students4Palin Taking Responsibility

Early in March, I received a request often found in the Organize4Palin inbox.
Dear O4P, What can I do to help?
What made it unique is that it was from a grad student who saw her peers as her responsibility. She watched as they fell prey to the liberal influences and became apathetic to our country’s demise. Anxious to save them before their minds were lost forever, Mary Watson grew tired of sitting on the bench and started making a game plan, using Gov. Palin’s clear values as the rallying points.
I’d really like to create a place geared toward two types of students: 1) a place where students who already support the governor can go to get information, talk to each other, organize; and 2) a place where other students who are not yet supporters can go to be challenged.
But she wasn’t the only one. Last year in Chicago at the C4P meet-up, another grad student approached me. Deema Yousef had the same burning desire. Connecting the young women was easy, and along with teammate Ellen Gallagher, they recently launched Students4Palin.com.

One of their first posts reads:
Today, S4P’s “Join!”page is going live. As we gear up for the coming months, we invite you to help us get the word out about Governor Palin on campuses across the country. Over the last year, we’ve realized that among our peers there are many young people who would be inclined to support Governor Palin if they knew anything about her policies. Perhaps many of them already do and, for whatever reason, they’re afraid to make their opinions known. We intend for our local S4P chapters to serve two purposes: (1) to put Governor Palin’s young supporters in touch with one another, and (2) to provide a mechanism by which these young, talented supporters can creatively spread the message to our peers. Of course, we can’t do it without YOU! Judging by how busy we are, we understand how busy all of you must be. It’s certainly a lot easier to choose apathy over action. Today, we’re asking you to make a little time for a cause that is unspeakably important. As Reagan said in his famous “Time for Choosing” speech,
“If all of this seems like a great deal of trouble, think what’s at stake. We are faced with the most evil enemy mankind has known in his long climb from the swamp to the stars. There can be no security anywhere in the free world if there is no fiscal and economic stability within the United States.” America’s future hangs in the balance. Will you accept the call? Or will you, by your inaction, sentence the next generation “to take the first step into a thousand years of darkness?”
Join us today!

S4P is currently helping to promote The Undefeated, and working on growing campus chapters. For more information, visit Students4Palin.com and be sure to follow them on Twitter and like their new Facebook page. If you’d like to chip in and help S4P reach their peers with Gov. Palin’s message, please use their button below. Thank you, and remember to send over your favorite student!

Sarah Palin--Lobbyist for the American People

Today marks the one year anniversary of the passage of the Dodd-Frank Financial “Reform” bill which was supposedly intended to reform Wall Street and the big lending agencies such as Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, but it instead did the opposite. It has paved the way to strengthen government tied lending agencies and stifle private lending agencies. The National Review reports:
Yet Fannie and Freddie are bigger than ever, securitizing nine out of ten home mortgages and receiving unlimited guarantees from the taxpayer, thanks to the Obama administration’s Christmas Eve bailout of 2009. And one provision of Dodd-Frank has not only slowed the momentum of reforming the GSEs, but threatens to make them even bigger.

Dodd-Frank’s rules on “qualified residential mortgages” — as currently proposed in a joint regulation by banking agencies, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the Securities and Exchange Commission — aggrandize the GSEs by putting shackles on their private-sector competitors. The regulation sets overly strict rules for down payments for mortgages to be securitized, but then exempts from these requirements any home loan insured by the Federal Housing Administration or purchased by Fannie or Freddie.

[…]

The administration also closed the door on the option of creating any exemption for private mortgage insurers if they create models to reduce risk, as some have proposed. In the Obama administration’s view, the answer is government backing for mortgages, period.

What the then Democratically controlled House and Senate and the President did was pass a bill that was a mix of corporatism and crony capitalism. However, as with anything done by a government at any level—local, state, or federal—an additional issue is how the bill was negotiated and passed, not just what was in the legislation itself. In Spring of 2010 in the midst of the financial “reform” bill legislation discussions, Governor Palin wrote a Facebook post criticizing the negotiation process:
The current debate over financial reform demonstrates what happens when political leaders react to a crisis with a raft of new regulations. First off, the people involved in writing government regulations are often lobbyists from the very industry that the new laws are supposed to regulate, and that’s been the case here. It should surprise no one that financial lobbyists are flocking to DC this week. Of course, the big players who can afford lobbyists work the regulations in their favor, while their smaller competitors are left out in the cold. The result here are regulations that institutionalize the “too big to fail” mentality.

Moreover, the financial reform bill gives regulators the power to pick winners and losers, institutionalizing their ability to decide “which firms to rescue or close, and which creditors to reward and how.” Does anyone doubt that firms with the most lobbyists and the biggest campaign donations will be the ones who get seats in the lifeboat? The president is trying to convince us that he’s taking on the Wall Street “fat cats,” but firms like Goldman Sachs are happy with federal regulation because, as one of their lobbyists recently stated, “We partner with regulators.”

They seem to have a nice relationship with the White House too. Goldman showered nearly a million dollars in campaign contributions on candidate Obama. In fact, J.P. Freire notes that President Obama received about seven times more money from Goldman than President Bush received from Enron. Of course, it’s not just the donations; it’s the revolving door. You’ll find the name Goldman Sachs on many an Obama administration résumé, including Rahm Emanuel’s and Tim Geithner’s chiefs of staff.

Between lobbying efforts and campaign funding, it seems that too often the government allows itself to be beholden to special interest groups and only certain institutions, and, thus, legislation is often crafted to benefited favored institutions, rather than the American people. This is a bipartisan problem. In fact, it is interesting to note that in the last three months, Governor Romney received far more campaign funds from Goldman Sachs employees than even President Obama. Romney has also accepted more than half a million dollars in campaign funding from lobbyists during that period of time. Additionally, in 1994, Romney’s Bain Capital actually has partnered with Goldman Sachs in purchasing Dade International, a medical diagnostics firm. In doing so, 1,600 Dade employees were laid off between 1994 and 1999, but Bain Capital and Goldman Sachs would later cash in selling back their shares to Dade for more than $350 million. So when Mitt Romney tries to tout his job creating skills as a businessman, it should be noted that he has also destroyed jobs while partnering with a company that would later give him loads of campaign money.

A May piece in the Washington Examiner noted, too, that Romney has been a big supporter of corporatism through government subsidies to business-- both during his time as governor and as he outlined in his book when he stated his support for energy subsidies. Contrast that with Governor Palin who recently said that she was opposed to all energy subsidies, favoring a free market, not government guided approach to the economy.

Additionally, as she noted in her book, Going Rogue, turned away campaign contributions that would be perceived as a conflict of interest and her 2007 ethics reform bill made it a crime for Alaskans to trade votes for campaign contributions. She also noted in the aforementioned Facebook post:
We need to be on our guard against such crony capitalism. We fought against distortion of the market in Alaska when we confronted “Big Oil,” or more specifically some of the players in the industry and in political office, who were taking the 49th state for a ride. My administration challenged lax rules that seemed to allow corruption, and we even challenged the largest corporation in the world at the time for not abiding by provisions in contracts it held with the state. When it came time to craft a plan for a natural gas pipeline, we insisted on transparency and a level playing field to ensure fair competition. Our reforms helped reduce politicians’ ability to play favorites and helped clean up corruption. We set up stricter oversight offices and ushered through a bi-partisan ethics reform bill. Far from being against necessary reform, I embrace it.

Commonsense conservatives acknowledge the need for financial reform and believe that government can play an appropriate role in leveling the playing field and protecting “the dynamism of American capitalism without neglecting the government’s responsibility to protect the American public.” We’re listening closely to the reform discussion in Washington, and we know that government should not burden the market with unnecessary bureaucracy and distorted incentives, nor make a dangerous “too-big-to-fail” mentality the law of the land.

As already noted, Governor Palin passed major ethics reform during her tenure. ACES, the oil tax structure she signed into law, revamped the previous legislation which favored predecessor’s cronies. AGIA, the natural gas pipeline project, was also negotiated and passed in a transparent manner and allowed all potential energy developers to submit their proposals. She has consistently fought against crony capitalism and corruption while advocating for competition and free market principles. One of Governor Palin’s greatest strengths lies in her consistency. This is what the Establishment in both parties fear. Her likely candidacy is a threat to the crony capitalism and corporatism that has become part of the political scene in Washington for too long. Whether it is campaign contributions, energy subsidies, Obamacare waivers to favored districts or states, preferential treatment of unions, or handcuffing the private sector, all of these would be fought against in a Palin administration. No other candidate or potential candidate can say they have fought against these types of unethical practices and won. That’s why it’s time to put a Lobbyist for the American people, not the large financial institutions or energy companies, in the White House.

So Why is the Palin Army so Strong?

Three years ago, when Sarah Palin was introduced to the nation, many people from across the political spectrum were electrified by her. The exception to that were those on the left and in the media establishment who were scared blind by the positive reaction the nation had to her. It was an emergency for them. They couldn't beat her on her record or her political positions so they had to go after her and her family personally.

The progressive movement has spent nearly a century infiltrating our country's politics, academia and culture. They were willing to go with Hillary Clinton but Obama was just too attractive and so dazzling to them that they dropped her like a bad habit and shot the works on him. They went all in. The "Shadow Party" felt it could come out now and fundamentally transform this thing with him at the top.

Then she happened.

As the revelations about the Journolist listserv show, the mainstream media was complicit in their efforts to try to destroy her. Remember, they were all in. They were ideologically committed to Obama after decades of Nixon, Reagan and Bush bashing. Why do you think people who don't follow this stuff as closely as we do think Palin said she can see Russia from her house? It's because they are more like Jay Leno's "man on the street" than they are their own thinkers and researchers. They believe what they read at face value. The mainstream media has been playing to these rubes for years by advancing agenda over intellect. Smitty at The Other McCain writes "The Progressive project is predicated upon the notion that the American people are sheep."

James Lewis at American thinker writes:
The Undefeated is a stunning documentary about Governor Sarah Palin against the lynch mobs of the left. These are not overly polite Adlai Stevenson liberals. They are radical throwbacks to Saul Alinsky and Jozef Stalin. They follow Alinsky and the ACORN rules.
More importantly, this is about a lot more than Sarah Palin. It's about money and power. Sarah Palin is the target because she and the Tea Party stand in the way of the progressive agenda. There were billions of dollars in green money (think cap and trade, alternative fuels, funny looking light bulbs, etc.) and investments in the coming of socialized medicine at stake in 2008 when the liberal media opened fire on her with all barrels. These people were about to take a bath if Sarah Palin succeeded in helping John McCain become president. The same can be said for the progressives who want to fundamentally transform America into a European socialist style democracy.

The fact that she hasn't gone away and still stands between them and their progressive agenda is just eating at them. Add to this the fact that negativity is a communicable disease. I don't have a problem with people who disagree with Sarah Palin, I have a problem with people who foam at the mouth and who go berserk at the mere mention of her name. Negativity is the devil's work. It is also reflective. It comes back at you. So when liberals complain that Palinistas are being a little less than civil, understand that the devil is a very crafty demon indeed.

Governor Palin is the antithesis to liberalism and progressivism. Her record in Alaska shows she's capable of busting up our hybrid socialist-quasi crony capitalist system. She is a threat to a lot of people who rely on the status quo that benefits them when wealth is redistributed through the tax code, 50% of the people pay no federal income tax and only those in the know with the right lobbyists and inside connections can get around the government made barriers to being successful. They will stop at nothing to destroy her.

When Governor Palin returned to Alaska, that's when the election should have ended. She should have been able to go back to being governor just as easily as John McCain went back to being Senator. But it didn't stop there.

During the campaign, a documentary group called The Wasilla Project ginned up several malcontents to lie about Sarah Palin and distort her record. For example, they falsely claimed that she made rape victims pay for their rape kits when she was Mayor of Wasilla. Their website was later scrubbed but not until after the "Thank You" page following Obama's win warned its readers to continue going after Sarah Palin because she would be back in 2012. I regret not keeping a screen shot.

After her return to Alaska, Palin was hit with the frivolous ethics complaints, which were filed by malcontents, fueled by the agenda driven Alaska Bloggers and picked up on way too easily by the mainstream media. This was all part of an overall smear campaign designed to destroy this woman., which she short circuited by resigning her governorship and sticking it to the media and the ankle biters by becoming a Fox News contributor, best selling author and sought after public speaker.

This only fueled the growth of the pro Palin movement. Supporters started blogs and websites when they saw Palin under attack. The Left and the media have basically created their own monster and now they struggle to contain it as it pulls the spitting high tension wires down on its way to the city of cronyism and socialism that she is about to destroy. There are hundreds of pro Palin blogs and websites across the internet. See if any of the other candidates have that kind of a following.

Ask yourself, why all the Palin sites? Why all the Palin bloggers and tweeters? The mainstream media attacks on Palin have been like a medicine ball and now her army's rhetorical stomachs are hard. They have become a well toned legion of well practiced writers, researchers and on the ground activists. Because they worked hard at battling with the mainstream media, they have become good at their craft. They strike with lightning speed and laser like precision.

So, when Conor Friedersdorf wrote that article about the empty theater, he lit a match in a foxhole at night and the Palin army nailed him. The Atlantic is a battleship that has been shooting missiles at her for the last three years and Friedersdorf just happened to put out his observation about the empty theater while standing on the deck of that battleship. The Palin army was all over that. He should have know he was going to get hit.

Palinistas are conditioned to be this way after how the mainstream media has treated her. They're committed to the mantra that there will be no free shots. This also applies to those on the right. Those who attack Sarah Palin will feel the wrath of the Palin army not because her supporters are mean spirited like liberals or establishment types, but because her supporters know you can't win a street fight by being nice.

The media will show you what they fear most. The Undefeated is a big deal. It's a game changer. Expect the media to go after it, lie about it and smear it. But after 3 years of fighting, the Palin army has no problem shooting down anything that the mainstream media can say from here on out.

My advice to the media: trash The Undefeated at your own peril. When liberals mess that close to the truth, they always get burnt. Oh, and keep your heads down low. We Palinista's are rhetorical sharp shooters and we fire at the mere thought of lying about Sarah Palin.

Listen to Patrick's World USA on BlogTalk Radio tonight at 11pm ET 8pm PT 7pm AK. Organize4Palin's Thomas S. Schmitz will be my guest to talk about The Undefeated.

Nancy French: What It Was Like to Co-Write the Bristol Palin Memoir

Today, US for Palin is pleased to feature Nancy French, the co-author of Bristol Palin's Not Afraid of Life. In "What It Was Like to Co-Write the Bristol Palin Memoir," Nancy gives her unique perspective on co-writing Bristol's book during the month she spent with the Palins. Nancy also co-authored Home and Away: A Story of Family in a Time of War with her husband David. He was in Iraq on the front lines while she was home. Track Palin went to the same province in Iraq, just a few days after David left it. This circumstance may have been a factor in Bristol selecting Nancy as her co-author.

Nancy shared with me that during her stay in Wasilla, she frequented the Mocha Moose on West Parks Highway, which brews Governor Palin's favorite coffee Good Morning Alaska. I routinely have 1-lb. bags of it shipped to my home and it is by far my favorite coffee as well along with its high-octane counterpart Whoa Nellie! The Mocha Moose proudly supports the Palins as evidenced by the "Dance Bristol Dance" sign on their building.

What It Was Like to Co-Write the Bristol Palin Memoir

My friends and I huddled around my iPhone, as we listened to my agent’s voicemail.

“Nancy, Harper Collins wants you to submit your resume for an opportunity to write for a young Christian celebrity,” he said. “But I can’t tell you who it is.”

I never considered myself a “ghost writer,” since I’ve published my own memoir about being a southerner living in New York and a book about Iraq I co-authored with my husband about his deployment and it’s effect on our family. I was definitely interested, however, and the mystery only deepened my interest.

Immediately, my friends and I began guessing. Miley Cyrus? Taylor Swift?

Because I live near Nashville, Tennessee, I assumed they were interested in my geographic location as much as my writing ability. Surely, an up-and-coming country musician needed help with her book, and I was exactly the kind of local writer who could pop in and out with minimal inconvenience.

That’s why I was surprised to get a call from Harper Collins a few weeks later – after I’d figured I’d been passed over for a more typical ghost writer (excuse me, “collaborator”). “Can you be on a call with Bristol Palin in one hour?”

Immediately, I figured I wouldn’t get the job. Though I’d “collaborated” before, my efforts haven’t yet been published. Surely she’d want someone more experienced for a book that would be analyzed, dissected, critiqued, and attacked. Bristol was noncommittal in that first conversation, and ended it by saying “I just need to talk to my mom.”

I tried to imagine that conversation, Momma Grizzly herself having a discussion with her daughter about me – a writer who lives in the Mule Capital of the World, Columbia, Tennessee.

It seemed too surreal to be true. Within days, however, I was in Wasilla, Alaska.

“I can stay on your couch or wherever in your apartment,” I texted Bristol on the way. “I won’t be a nuisance.”

She sent me an address, and I was certainly surprised when I drove up Todd and Sarah Palin’s driveway. Ice cemented the ground under the snow, and Christmas lights decorated an iron gate. (White lights or colored? Guess in the comments section.)

“This is my parents’ house,” Bristol said as she came out to greet me. She looked great – young and fit in her yoga pants and North Face jacket. “You’ll be staying here.”

She led me to where I’d be living for the next month, in a detached building on the Palin’s property, where Gov. Palin films her Fox interviews. In fact, I frequently wrote perched high in her chair, with a frozen Lake Lucille outside the tall windows. Cars drove by slowly on the lake, no doubt taking photos of their house. Some did “donuts” and skidded around on the ice. A couple of guys were ice fishing. A moose slowly ambled across the frozen water and made his way to the Palin’s house.

CLINGING TO GUNS, RELIGION, AND SARAH

They went for Ronald Reagan twice and George H.W. Bush once, but since then it's been a Democrat sweep in Pennsylvania presidential races. Keystone staters backed Bill Clinton in 1992 and 1996, Al Gore in 2000, John Kerry in 2004, and Barack Obama in 2008. More times than not the Pennsylvania winner went on to win the White House, with Gore and Kerry being the exceptions. So, while not the barometer of an Ohio or a Florida, Pennsylvania certainly can go a long way in deciding who calls Pennsylvania Avenue home. With that in mind, the Sarah Palin supporters that live here know they can't afford to leave any stone unturned. They are already fighting for their candidate on a daily basis, even though she has yet to enter the race.

Pennsylvania is an interesting state. Yes, the two big cities account for a large part of the identity of the commonwealth but between the liberal lemmings of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh we find middle America. If someone were dropped into many parts of the state without knowing where they were they may guess Kentucky or Tennessee or another conservative bastion. There are rural communities filled with hard-working values voters who want their leaders to pass a litany of litmus tests. Of course they want someone to turn the economy around but they also want that person to believe in the core principles that this country was founded on. Many are pro-life gun owners that hold God, country and family near and dear. You could argue they are a group Governor Palin could certainly win over.

We all remember the infamous quote from then Senator Obama. Speaking about small towns in Pennsylvania back in 2008, Obama said, "And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations." That comment ruffled a lot of feathers. Some however did their own line item veto to the quote and pulled out the parts that they could take as a compliment. Now they use it as fodder; as inspiration. These folks do find their right to bare arms a vital part of being an American. They do worship Jesus and are not ashamed of it, no matter how much Hollywood or the press may tell them it's not really cool. Governor Palin shares these sentiments.

The outpouring of Palin support in Pennsylvania is as clear as day on the Internet. Facebook pages galore are backing the Barracuda. The 'likes', comments, and posts pile up on these pages day in and day out. They want Sarah Palin to run for president. They want it bad. Palinistas root for her to run, pray that she'll run, and flat out beg her to run. These are committed supporters who likely would strongly back another hopeful if their Sarah ultimately decides to sit this one out, but it's clear there is only one top choice for them. This exuberance shows candidate Palin would have a dedicated base of eager volunteers, thus making her extremely dangerous not only in the GOP primary but in a potential match-up with President Obama.

Some of the hotter Palin pages on Facebook right now include Pennsylvanians for Palin, Americans for Sarah Palin 2012, and 2012 DRAFT SARAH COMMITTEE. All have a noticeable presence of Keystone State residents yearning for a Palin run. Perhaps the most intriguing group is Youth For Palin. The cyber gathering there is relatively new and gaining steam every day. There is no age requirement. It's for all Palin backers, but there are plenty of young Americans, some who won't even be able to vote come 2012, putting every ounce of energy into their candidate who isn't a candidate just yet. Obama's victory in '08 was buoyed by young voters and youthful volunteers. Palin will try to delve into that page of the playbook if she does enter the fray. The foundation is already there.

What's most noticeable with all of these groups is that the drive for a Palin candidacy seems so genuine. No one appears to be looking for fame or pay or really anything other than getting the woman in the White House that they believe can turn our national mess around. They brag about how she isn't from money, how she doesn't have multiple master's degrees, how she's one of them. A real person who knows how to deal with real issues. A daughter, wife, mother, warrior.

Now it's a hurry up and wait attitude. They're chomping at the bit, cautiously confident Palin will say 'I'm in' come August or September. Perhaps Tammy Bruce put it best. When I spoke with her at one of the showings of The Undefeated, she said her best advice to Palin supporters is to act as if she's running. "If she does...great," said Bruce. "If not, no harm, no foul." Those in Pennsylvania yearning for a Palin national campaign seem to be heeding that advice. They rarely speak in 'ifs', rather optimistically choosing 'whens' instead.

Because of a late primary date, the Republican nomination will likely be sewn up by the time Pennsylvania voters get a chance to pull the lever. In 2008 Mike Huckabee was still on the ballot, but John McCain was already the presumptive nominee. So assuming Palin can fend off Mitt Romney, Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain and the rest of the field, Pennsylvania will only play a role in November 2012. But, oh what a role this state could play. Barring major Election Day weirdness elsewhere, a GOP victory in Pennsylvania would almost assuredly spell the end of the Obama administration.

Could Palin actually take Pennsylvania? McCain was beaten here soundly. Sarah Palin, however is not John McCain. The Republican ticket soared when Palin came on board only to falter when the economy tanked. Along the way campaign operatives silenced Governor Palin, rarely allowing her to speak of Obama's less than stellar associates or his sketchy political dealings in Chicago. Sarah Palin on top of a national ticket would mean an unfiltered voice. She'd go after the President's record, something he did not have in 2008. Now he owns a dreadful economy chockfull of unemployment, skyrocketing gas prices and unheard of grocery costs. The opponent is beatable. Can voters in Pennsylvania see past the muck and mire continuously thrown Palin's way by the media, celebrities, and Dems? That will ultimately decide this potential match-up. A dream match-up at that if you ask Palin supporters around here.
